As part of our series of interviews with Oracle employees, partners, and customers who have successfully passed the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2018 Architect Associate exam, we recently interviewed Rajib Kundu of SmartDog Services.
Rajib is a Database Architect and SQL Server evangelist. His primary passion is performance tuning, and he frequently rewrites queries for better performance and performs in-depth analysis of index implementation and usage. He has worked for two years as a Cloud Architect, where he has supervised and participated in the implementation of technologies and platforms supporting global internet 24×7 application.

Greg: How did you prepare for the certification?
Rajib: My focus was on the Networking service, Database service, OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure), especially for Identity Access Management, High Availability solution, public and private subnet. These were the types of things that I focused on first. I also got quite familiar with Terraform. You need to familiarize yourself with the exam topics.
I also reviewed the videos that are posted, and different documentation and blogs. I also signed up for the free account to test scenarios. Working with the console helped me improve my confidence with OCI and helped me learn how to create and configure the resource.
I also enrolled in the available training and reviewed the OCI user guide.
Greg: How is life after getting certified?
Rajib: I have always considered myself a SQL Server guy, but once I earned the OCI certification, I felt very good about myself! I updated my Facebook and LinkedIn and received a lot of positive response from coworkers.
I’ve found that when I’m demonstrating in front of a client, having the certification reinforces their trust in my abilities. I’ve included the digital badge in my business card as well, and this always gets the attention of the client.
Greg: Any other advice you’d like to share?
Rajib: I must suggest to everyone, once you completed the training, PLEASE do the practice test! Do it at least one or two times to ensure that you are ready for the exam.
