January is a time when most of us create personal and professional plans for the year. For me, this time of the year is about creating a plan for investing in myself so that I am better prepared for the innovation that is happening in cloud computing.
Today, enterprises spend over $3 trillion in IT. According to Forrester’s "Predictions 2019: Cloud Computing" report, the global cloud market will exceed $200 billion in 2019. And distributed and cloud computing skills are the most sought-after skills globally, according to LinkedIn. As enterprises move their workloads to cloud, it's important to bridge the skills gap in the current workforce to drive adoption and successful deployments.
At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we're building a world-class cloud for enterprises and startups alike. We're releasing services and features at a rapid pace to provide our customers a secure, robust, high-performance cloud infrastructure that meets the demands of their mission-critical workloads. We know that for our customers to be able to take advantage of these services and features, they need to know how to use them properly. To that end, we've collaborated with Qloudable to bring customers a self-paced learning platform called Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Jump Start Learning Labs.
As I mentioned in my TD at Work issue, "Foster Learning Through Engaging Content," to bridge the skills gap and to foster a learning culture, it's important to keep the learner engaged and have a well-defined outcome. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's 15-minute to 45-minute hands-on, task-based labs provide step-by-step instructions for configuring and working with services at your own pace and convenience. It's a great way to bridge the cloud computing skills gap and be prepared for the cloud wave in 2019, and all you need is a laptop with a browser.
The labs are categorized by skill level:
We launched these labs at Oracle OpenWorld 2018, and our customers and partners are loving them. They have huge goals to close the cloud computing skills gap, and this platform is enabling them to accelerate their journey to the cloud. Here’s what some of our customers had to say about these labs:
"Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Jump Start Learning Labs are a great way to provide actual hands-on experience. The labs are easy to use and a great learning tool. Darling Ingredients decided to go with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure last year. Having these labs available for our team will help close the skills gap and drive adoption. We expect to see a significant impact on our business as our teams are preparing for the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate certification."

"Oracle has paved a remarkable way for its partners to have a live, intuitive experience of their 'click-and-go' cloud infrastructure. Jump Start Learning Labs have been instrumental in assisting our architects and developers to get familiar with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in minutes and gain confidence in the platform. We have 10-plus certified associates now, which shall definitely help us to increase our reach to more potential customers globally and provide better cloud solutions."

"At Deloitte, we are constantly providing innovative cloud solutions to our customers. And therefore, it is important that our consultants and architects have in-depth, hands-on knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The availability of such labs is imperative for our teams in closing the skill gap and driving adoption of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for our clients. The ease-of-use of the learning labs makes it a great learning tool, and thus it is an excellent way to provide actual hands-on experience to our consultants/architects."
