Announcing Rancher support for Kubernetes clusters running on Arm

SUSE Rancher and OCI Arm

We’re pleased to announce that SUSE Rancher is extending its provisioning support to Arm-based Ampere A1 Compute instances running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This expanded support is inclusive of existing cloud native workloads and offerings like Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes (OKE). This is exciting news for the partnership as SUSE Rancher becomes the only multicluster management solution to provision Kubernetes clusters on Arm architecture at scale through OKE.

“Customers are increasingly demanding multiarchitecture support within the cloud native environments,” says Keith Basil, vice president of product and cloud native infrastructure at SUSE. “Oracle Cloud Infrastructure introduces innovation with the Ampere A1 Compute platform on this front. Our goal is to extend our Arm support even deeper with the new release of SUSE Rancher by adding support for provisioning multi-arch OKE clusters.”

What is SUSE Rancher?

Hybrid and multicloud are the ‘new normal’ of IT. With Arm for container workloads increasing at an exponential rate, you need a single pane to manage these heterogenous Kubernetes environments. SUSE Rancher creates a multicluster with different hardware architectures, hybrid, or multicloud container orchestration strategies. SUSE Rancher enables the installation and configuration management of production-grade Kubernetes clusters in a multitude of deployment scenarios, on-premises, in the cloud, and at the edge.

When up and running, SUSE Rancher handles all aspects of operations for your multicluster Kubernetes deployment. From a single console, administrators can monitor any cluster, in any location, upgrade Kubernetes versions, backup etcd, and recover degraded clusters.

SUSE Rancher is a complete software stack for any DevOps team adopting containers. It addresses the operational challenges of managing multiple Kubernetes clusters across any infrastructure or cloud provider. SUSE Rancher enables integration with existing developer toolsets, such as GitHub and Jenkins, allowing DevOps teams to optimize their existing resources. SUSE Rancher provides ubiquitous management of Kubernetes clusters with centralized authentication and access control, enterprise security, auditing, backups, upgrades, observability, and alerts. You can deploy clusters in minutes anywhere, using the intuitive user interface.

When cluster deployment and management are automated across clouds, on-premises developers can then focus on writing code that delivers differentiating services and not worry about the infrastructure that runs them.
