We’re excited to launch email-friendly alarm notifications in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Monitoring service.

OCI Monitoring helps you monitor the health and performance of your resources using metrics and alarms. It provides out-of-the-box metrics for all OCI cloud resources and supports ingesting custom metrics for a single-pane-of-glass view across your cloud and on-premises resources. You can create alarms in OCI Monitoring to receive notifications through SMS, email, Slack, and PagerDuty when your resources operate outside preferred thresholds and to trigger Functions and custom webhooks for autoremediating issues.

New formats for alarms

With this launch, our customers now can choose a format in which to receive alarm notifications in email from OCI Monitoring. The service now offers the following options:

  • Send formatted messages: Receive alarm notifications in an easy-to-read format that surfaces important details in an alarm without requiring deep JSON knowledge. The following image shows an example.

  • Send pretty JSON messages: Receive alarm notifications as formatted JSON with line breaks for more readable JSON messages.

  • Send raw JSON messages: Receive alarm notifications in raw JSON format. Before this announcement, OCI Monitoring sent alarm notifications in this format by default.

This update has no breaking changes for customers that already have alarms running in OCI Monitoring. They can continue to receive email notifications in raw JSON format. Customers who have configured to receive alarm notifications through SMS, Slack, PagerDuty, Functions, and custom webhooks see no changes.
