As COVID-19 hit the entire world, there has been a rise in data-intensive needs to handle new types of use-cases. The global pandemic presented new complexities and challenges for business leaders, causing companies to seek digital solutions to gain greater agility.

Cloud technologies are re-shaping enterprises, creating new opportunities for innovation while fostering a new culture amongst the human-machine workforce. However, as digital modernization drives greater accessibility to data and intelligence, businesses must prepare for how these shifts will impact traditional roles in IT and adopt new strategies that enable seamless evolution and growth.

In the first episode of our “Designed for Change” five episode podcast mini-series, hosts Michael Hickins and Barb Darrow from our Stories from the Cloud podcast channel met with Samia Tarraf, Accenture’s North America Oracle Business Group Lead, to discuss how businesses are looking to data to adapt to unprecedented change and accelerate impact.  Listen now.

With greater emphasis around agility and growth, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a necessity for businesses to move forward. Studies show that 84% of executives believe they won’t achieve their growth objectives unless they scale their AI, while 75% of executives believe they are at risk in their own business because they are not scaling their AI. However, while many companies are applying AI to enable new ways of managing their data – whether that’s through creating new analytics or automating data operations – a greater opportunity lies.

For instance, in response to the racial injustice brought to light within the last year, Accenture developed the Accenture Workplace Accountability Resource Experience (AWARE) to derive insights, metrics and accountability to drive a more diverse and equitable workforce. AWARE is a Human Capital Management solution innovated on Oracle Analytics Cloud, and is compatible with other major HCM solutions. Here, they use discovery, comparative, and predictive analytics to enable meaningful data-driven actions. AWARE presents an empowering example as to how technologies, when applied with mindful intent, can solve problems of all sizes – from creating new insights for your business, to enabling more accountability across ethics and workforce culture.

But as companies unlock new opportunities and priorities as the surrounding market evolves, the challenge lies in determining the right solutions that complement their needs best. Multi-cloud environments are increasingly being practiced, with businesses utilizing different vendors to address multiple functions – such as a high performant infrastructure to support critical workloads, a platform that enables custom application development, or new SaaS solutions that drive productivity.

“I do think people are seeking strategic opportunities to minimize the transfer of data of Clouds, so there are advantages to aligning applications to avoid latency, and really costly data egress charges as they’re looking at that. You’re looking at an enterprise capability across SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS, and so that, to me, is why the Oracle Cloud is the one for the enterprise, because you can have it all.”

Technology is elevating the enterprise ability to evolve and adapt to change, and its fostering new opportunities for companies to do more. As we’ve seen with last year’s pandemic, digital capabilities are enabling greater connectivity between customers, employees, and businesses. Growth and success is always a journey – and as cloud unlocks new possibilities in the digital space, perhaps the greatest value is how companies can apply these tools to create positive impact for their customers and their community.
