We’re excited to announce the latest release of Oracle Cloud Migrations, supporting the migration of Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 virtual machine (VM) instances to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). With the release of this feature, Oracle Cloud Migrations enables migrations from both on-premises VMware estates and AWS EC2 VMs to OCI Compute VMs.
Migration is a natural part of the VM lifecycle, especially for customers looking to modernize their infrastructure or change their platform. This fully managed OCI toolset provides you with complete control over the migration workflow while simplifying and automating the process, including the following capabilities:
- Automatically discovering VMs in your source environment
- Creating and managing an inventory within OCI of the resource identified in the source environment
- Providing compatibility assessments, metrics, recommendations, and cost comparisons
- Creating plans and simplifying the deployment of migration targets (destination VMs) in OCI Compute
Benefits of migrating to OCI Compute
OCI’s Compute platform is optimized for performance, flexibility, and cost. We achieve these economics by providing choices for virtual instances at a fraction of the price of similar options on other platforms. With OCI Compute flexible instances, you can build your solution exactly how you need it with no waste: Choose the specific granular number of cores and amount of memory that a VM needs, without having to fit into predefined 2-4-8-16 shapes. For example, our E4.Flex instances are significantly less expensive and offer higher performance than AWS’ M6a instances.

Get started with Oracle Cloud Migrations
Oracle Cloud Migrations is available to customers in all OCI commercial regions.
While the service incurs no extra cost, it temporarily consumes some object storage and Compute instances to run the replication and migration processes. When the migration is complete, you pay normally for any cloud resources consumed, such as VMs and block volumes.
