Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) is a complete cloud analytics solution that enables enterprises to meet their analytics needs and enables greater interaction and insights from data. Oracle Essbase is a multidimensional database management system purpose-built for complex what-if modeling and hierarchical analysis. Integrating Essbase with OAC can provide a powerful solution for business intelligence and analytics.
With Essbase data now available in OAC, you can start building reports and dashboards using OAC’s visualization tools and leverage the multidimensional nature of Essbase for in-depth analysis and exploration.
A general guide on how you can create an Essbase connection in OAC
Log in to the Oracle Analytics Cloud console using your credentials.

On the Home page, click Create, and then click Connection.

Click Oracle Essbase.

Enter the Connection Details.
- Connection Name
- Description
- For DSN, enter the agent URL for your data source.
- For Oracle Analytics Cloud – Essbase use the format: https://fully_qualified_domain_name/essbase/agent
- For Username and Password, enter user credentials with access to the Essbase data source.
- Under Authentication, specify how you’d like to authenticate the connection:
- Always use these credentials – OAC always uses the login name and password you provide for the connection. Users aren’t prompted to log in.
- Require users to enter their own credentials – OAC prompts users to enter their own user name and password for the data source.
- Use the active user’s credentials – OAC doesn’t prompt users to sign in to access the data. The same credentials they used to sign in to OAC are also used to access this data source.
Save the details.

You can now create datasets from the connection.
To create dataset follow the below steps:
Click Create and select Dataset.

Select the connection created for the Essbase connection.

Choose the specific application for which you intend to generate a report, then simply click ‘Add’.

Provide the dataset name and click the ‘ADD’ button. Click Create Workbook.

Explore dimensions and effortlessly drag and drop members onto the canvas to customize and build reports according to your requirements.

Conclusion
Creating an Essbase connection in OAC involves creating connection to your Essbase server. You can create, edit and delete a connection to Essbase and use the connection to create datasets from Essbase cubes.
