International Women’s Day is celebrated yearly on March 8. During International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen in 1910, 100 women voted unanimously for the creation of International Women’s Day, which was first celebrated in 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
More than a century later, we are still taking the opportunity each year to celebrate women, this year with a focus on equity. Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have. When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion, so we forge harmony and unity, and help drive success for all.
With International Women’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to encourage you to recognize the women you are working with for the amazing work they are doing and to mentor them into building skills, confidence, and networking.
Here are some words from one of our Oracle ACE Directors:
“I stayed in the background and let the well-known stars took the limelight – though I was supporting them behind the scenes. Some peers finally nudged me out of that rut. While I still don’t care for the limelight, by stepping up specific ACE contributions – writing, presenting, volunteering – I became an ACE, then finally an ACE Director.
I became recognized for my contributions, without being in someone else’s shadow or following along in someone else’s footsteps. Was it a lot of work? Heck yes. Would I do it again? Absolutely. The Oracle ACE program needs more strong women. You are out there – come and join us.” – Karen Cannell, Oracle ACE Director
