On International Women’s Day we want to highlight some of our own “best of the best” in the Oracle ACE community, to celebrate women’s achievements in innovation and technology. All the Oracle ACE Advocates below who agreed to share a few thoughts on IWD “walk the walk” of participating and engaging their communities using technology to create a better world.
We invite you to read the below and help grow the community of Women in Technology by nominating an ACE today.
Diversity
“Happy International Women’s Day! Women in Technology is not limited to engineers and developers. It includes those who are taking technology and applying it to real world solutions.
Celebrate your contribution in the technology sector and encourage other builders and users of technology!” – Susan Behn, Oracle ACE Director
“International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to reflect on how far women in IT have come, and how far we still need to go.
We all know diversity is important, and it’s even more crucial in the technology sector to get different viewpoints as we set out to solve mission-critical IT challenges. Women tackle and solve problems in a unique manner and offer a new perspective and energy that is crucial in today’s IT landscape.” – Mia Urman, Oracle ACE Director
“I’ve been in the technology world my entire career and it has provided me and my family invaluable life experiences. I wouldn’t trade that for the world. Women can thrive in this space, and we need more women!” – Opal Alapat, Oracle ACE Director
“The tech world is better when everyone gets involved. Find like-minded people by joining and volunteering in your favorite Oracle User Groups. Engage with your community by writing blogs, creating videos, or giving presentations. You and your community will be glad you did!” – Jackie Mcilroy, Oracle ACE Pro
Empowering
“There is no doubt in my mind that we will leave our mark in the world. The shape, color and size are your choice. Dare to be yourself in full color!” – Ixchel Ruiz, Oracle ACE Associate
“When I finally stopped trying to be what I thought someone else expected me to be, I could begin to realize my whole self, and become that much stronger because of it. Don’t let someone else set your thoughts and goals and limits – you set those and achieve them. Then help others to do the same along the way.
This International Women’s Day, stretch yourself a bit. Do one thing that you think you aren’t good enough for and prove to yourself (and the world) that you are.” – Karen Cannell, Oracle ACE Director
“Reach for the STARS, do not forget to DREAM. Be yourself, do not try to be somebody else. The meaning of life is to be a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday. Happy International Women’s Day!” – Heli Helskyaho, Oracle ACE Director
“You can be part of the women who bill, as Shakira says. Technology is an exciting profession and one of the best paid.” – Rita Nuñez, Oracle ACE Director
Mentoring
“While it’s isolating being a woman in the tech world, the Oracle ACE Program has been an incredible resource and opportunity for me in my own journey. The amazing women of the ACE Program unite in their shared quest for knowledge, and shared values of community, mentorship, and growth. I am so lucky to belong to a program that allows me the chance to mentor, contribute, educate, and inspire other women in IT in their journey toward mastery and success.” – Mia Urman, Oracle ACE Director
“Don’t be intimidated by people saying the tech industry is a men’s world. There are a variety of roles to choose from. Try some until you find the one you like best. Learn hard to build strong knowledge. Find a mentor to guide you and support you in building your career. Make your voice heard. Trust your potential; don’t be afraid to take risks. You will gain respect; you will feel the taste of success.
And don’t forget to give back to the community. That’s how we all grow professionally.” – Mirela Ardelean, Oracle ACE Pro
Equality & Equity
“Equality is about everyone, and every idea being considered and the benefit to technology is immense. So please join us and add your value to our industry, and if you are not sure how or are nervous about it, reach out to anyone of us!” – Debra Lilley, Oracle ACE Director
“Let me begin by wishing you a very happy International Women’s Day! As we all know, today is the day devoted to celebrating the achievements of women and seeking gender equality. We should all be proud of ourselves because only little girls with big dreams become women with vision. I am proud to be an Oracle ACE Pro and thankful to Oracle for this program.” – Megha Gupta, Oracle ACE Pro
“I invite you to be the change you want to see in the world, do not wait for others to change things. Take the first step yourself and generate a wave of change for the entire society. Being an IT professional isn’t about gender. It’s about skills! Never let anyone limit you! It’s never too late to reinvent yourself! Changes are always made with the first step!
Do you dare to be a change agent? United, we are stronger! Happy International Women’s Day!” – Clarisa Maman Orfali, Oracle ACE Pro
“To the beautiful and talented ladies – Let us unite and stand to make a better and an equal tomorrow for the next generation!” – Heema Satapathy, Oracle ACE Pro
