I’m delighted to note that on March 1, Oracle announced that the University System of Georgia (USG) joined Oracle Academy to advance technology education within the system and help students develop career-ready expertise in cloud, software development, and business applications.
Oracle Academy will work with USG to provide curriculum, cloud technology and professional development across the university system’s 26 public colleges and universities serving over 334,000 students.
By joining Oracle Academy, the University System of Georgia becomes part of a global community with a shared mission to advance technology education and skills. Working together, USG and Oracle Academy will bring essential computing knowledge and skills to students at one of the nation’s largest higher education systems.
“As technology becomes increasingly important across industries, we wanted a partner that could deliver the depth and breadth of technology, understanding and resources that would help faculty better prepare students for success regardless of their career path,” said Art Recesso, USG’s vice chancellor for innovation in academic programs. “Oracle Academy gives us just that ― a comprehensive curriculum, advanced faculty training programs and access to technology at the forefront of business, science and industry.”
Through the collaboration with Oracle Academy, USG students will attain hands-on experience and develop an in-depth understanding of the latest technologies, including cloud computing, machine learning, data science, and more. We also will support USG faculty with continuing professional development and resources as they work with students to learn, build, and explore.
Oracle’s leadership in cloud and emerging technologies propels Oracle Academy’s innovation-focused curriculum and resources that help prepare students for the next step in their education or careers. As an Oracle Academy Institutional member, all USG universities and colleges will gain free access to a wide range of computing tools and training, including:
- Oracle Academy Cloud Program: Access to Oracle Autonomous Database and Compute Virtual Machines (VM) through Oracle Cloud Free Tier, as well as free cloud credits annually for emerging technologies, infrastructure, database, application development and more.
- Oracle APEX: Access to Oracle APEX for hands-on practice in the cloud on a low-code development platform that enables users to build scalable, secure enterprise apps, with world-class features, that can be deployed anywhere.
- NetSuite: Access to NetSuite and NetSuite OneWorld software as a service (SaaS) solutions to provide students with practical, hands-on business computing experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP), sales and marketing, ecommerce, supply chain and more.
- Curriculum and Learning Resources: Career-relevant curriculum and learning modules in Java, database, and project management. A sampling of courses includes Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning in Java, Oracle APEX Development Foundations, and Oracle Primavera P6 Professional Project Management Fundamentals.
The University System of Georgia (USG) is one of the nation’s largest and most respected systems for higher education in the United States. Winner of the 2019-2020 Exceptional Agency Award from the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, USG has been cited nationally for its excellent leadership, academic innovation, state government support and rise in student achievement.
Thank you to Oracle Academy Marketing Specialist Erik Young for his work on this collaboration. We are excited to welcome USG to Oracle Academy and proud to help the system continue to advance technology education, skills, innovation, and diversity and inclusion.
