Big news: Our clients have now delivered 11 terawatt-hours of energy savings

One hundred utilities worldwide use our customer engagement platform to help homes and businesses better manage their energy use. And they just hit a huge milestone: 11 terawatt-hours of cumulative energy savings.

Eleven terawatt-hours is enough energy to power more than 1 million homes in the United States for a full year. And it represents over $1.1 billion in bill savings for utility customers all over the world.

Much of those savings — more than 3 TWh — have come in the last 12 months. Utilities like Exelon, Pacific Gas & Electric, National Grid, Con Edison, Southern California Edison, E.ON U.K., ENMAX Energy, ComEd, and Malaysia’s TNB have continued to ramp up their demand-side management programs, giving customers the tools they need to take control of their energy bills.

“ComEd has worked with Opower since 2009, delivering nearly 750 GWh of savings for our customers to date,” said George Malek, Director of Energy Efficiency Services at ComEd. “Opower’s Home Energy Reports have enabled ComEd to scale energy efficiency in a way that achieves extraordinary savings for our customers.”

They’ve also driven substantial increases in customer satisfaction, and helped our clients push their J.D. Power scores higher.

Utilities use our platform to unify their customer data streams, run rigorous analysis across more than 85 different variables, and share unique energy insights with millions of customers. To date, our platform has processed more than 500 billion meter reads — making it the largest residential energy data store on earth.

Our clients are embedding Opower insights in an increasingly wide range of customer care and demand-side management programs. Utilities like Puget Sound Energy are sharing personalized efficiency advice in billing communications and call center software. Others, like Con Edison, are using insights to market products like Nest thermostats and solar panels.
