At Oracle, we have placed a stake in the ground for sustainability, setting an ambitious goal of reaching 100% renewable energy by 2025. Our philosophy is to embed sustainability into our operations as well as the events we run, including the upcoming Oracle CloudWorld conference in Las Vegas, September 18-21, 2023.

Known for its glitz and glamour, Las Vegas aspires to be a ‘smart city’ and is recognized as one of the country’s most energy efficient and sustainable urban centers. The city is an ideal venue for Oracle CloudWorld and other sustainability-focused events, as it uses 100 percent renewable electricity. Energy usage by city-run facilities comes from renewables and has since 2016. Over the past 15 years, since embracing energy conservation as a goal in 2008, city facilities in Las Vegas have reduced their energy usage by a third.

Oracle partners with MeetGreen, an independent event management firm in Portland, Oregon, to plan and audit our sustainability efforts at Oracle CloudWorld. MeetGreen helps organizations produce impactful events that are aligned with leading event sustainability practices for events. Based on analysis from prior years, we are doubling down on our sustainability initiatives at CloudWorld 2023:

  • Targeting Zero Waste: You’ll see digital signage instead of printed collateral, aisles free of carpet, and booths built with recyclable or reusable materials. We will offer 100% non-beef and non-pork lunches, saving millions of gallons of water that would have been generated in beef and pork production. There will be compostable service ware at meals and water refill stations. Finally, 100% of assets, furniture, and décor will be rented or stored for reuse.
  • Reducing Carbon: To minimize CloudWorld’s carbon footprint, we selected a LEED Gold-certified venue that participates in water conservation efforts and sources 100% of its energy from renewables.
  • Reusing and Giving Back: Leftover food and supplies will be donated to non-profit organizations. We also support The Venetian’s partnership with Clean the World’s Hospitality Recycling Program.

This year, we are proud to collaborate with Accenture as the Oracle CloudWorld Sustainability Partner. Accenture is offering several initiatives to minimize the conference’s impact on the environment. They are providing reusable water bottles for all event attendees, along with water refill stations in partnership with Fill It Forward. Accenture is also offering attendees the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint from their travel for free; working with Cool Effect, participation will benefit the “Breath of Fresh Air” project to build fuel-efficient cookstoves in Central America. They are also co-hosting a sustainability breakfast with Oracle’s Chief Sustainability Offer and SVP, Jon Chorley, and Accenture’s Managing Director, Laurence Bellenguez.  Learn more about how Accenture and Oracle are working together to help organizations reduce waste and make their green ambitions a reality.

Oracle CloudWorld provides customers the opportunity to network and learn about creative solutions for today’s most pressing business challenges. This September, the event will feature the largest number of ESG related sessions, including presentations from industry leaders such as Circulor, which helps companies cut CO2 emissions and unethical sourcing in global supply chains, as well as Uber Freight, Emerson, Rheem Manufacturing, Grupo Bimbo and others.
