An Avro schema defines exactly how Siebel CRM event payloads are produced and consumed through Kafka. Schema becomes the contract—referenced on write and read, and it can evolve over time using Avro’s schema evolution rules, so changes are controlled rather than disruptive.

  • Create the Avro schema files.
  • Configure the schemamapping section in the aieventconfig.txt (AI sidecar) file.

Unlocking Flexible Field Mapping for Siebel Kafka Events

Avro requires field names to follow a defined format: they must start with a letter or underscore, and then use only letters, digits, and underscores—no spaces, hyphens, or special characters. That’s great for consistency, but it can collide with real-world Siebel CRM data, where fields like Last Name (with a space) are perfectly normal. And in some integrations, the field names used by downstream applications may be totally different from Siebel’s—meaning you may need a clean, predictable transformation.

Siebel CRM’s Avro serialization makes this simple with schema mapping:

  • Define an Avro-friendly name in the schema (for example, Last_Name)
  • Set a field name of your choice that is Avro compliant. For example, set siebelName to a value (say Last_Name) that maps to the original Siebel field (Last Name in this case)
  • That’s it! the system reads Last Name from schema and returns  Last_Name in the converted result.

If you don’t configure siebelName, the system uses the schema field name for the lookup.
