Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer and Private Cloud Appliance had a big year in 2023 with two product launches, more than a dozen great analyst reviews, and being part of Oracle’s Distributed Cloud — which was recognized as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Distributed Hybrid Infrastructure  (read more here).

Nearly seven years ago, we decided to give customers the ability to consume Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Oracle Database services on Exadata platforms in customer data centers. This was called Exadata Cloud@Customer, and delivered cloud automation and economics wherever customers needed it. It’s been extremely successful, so this year we added Compute Cloud@Customer to our portfolio so customers can run core OCI compute, storage, and networking services on cloud infrastructure in their data centers.

With Compute Cloud@Customer, we’re bringing more of our cloud capabilities to you with a rack-scale solution. It enables you to run cloud compute services anywhere you need them, meet data residency requirements, develop once and deploy anywhere, and have an easy migration path to the cloud.

Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer – Run OCI Compute Anywhere

On August 9th, 2023 we announced Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer, a rack-scale cloud infrastructure that enables organizations to use OCI compute services anywhere. With it, customers can develop, deploy, secure, and manage legacy applications, cloud native applications, and middleware using an identical software and infrastructure stack as OCI. Remotely managed by Oracle, Compute Cloud@Customer lets customers gain cloud automation and economics benefits, while meeting data residency requirements by controlling their data’s location.
We also built in some unique capabilities into Compute Cloud@Customer that makes it the ideal place to run applications and middleware that utilize databases running on Exadata Cloud@Customer. You can now run your workloads in your data center and benefit from cloud automation, scalability, and consumption economics across the stack.

Compute Cloud@Customer offers high levels of performance and capacity in a rack-scale architecture. With it, you get up 2,208 cores per rack, 6,624 cores per system, and petabytes of usable storage. It provides up to 4x the number of cores per rack as AWS Outposts systems, support for object, file, and block storage services, and dynamic consumption-based pricing – letting customers save up to 72% compared to Outposts deployments. See the Wikibon analysis for more details. In addition, Compute Cloud@Customer received a warm welcome from the global industry analyst community. You can read their comments here

Oracle Private Cloud Appliance X10

On Dec 14th, 2023  Oracle announced Oracle Private Cloud Appliance X10. This next-generation Oracle engineered system enables customers to run middleware and applications using OCI compatible APIs and services without being connected to the public cloud. Compatibility with OCI APIs, services, and automation enables customers to develop applications once and deploy them on non-cloud platforms anywhere.

Like Compute Cloud@Customer, Private Cloud Appliance X10 offers high levels of compute and storage expandability and provides deep integration with Oracle Exadata and Oracle Database Appliance using Direct Connect technology. Private Cloud Appliance brings OCI infrastructure constructs and architectures to the enterprise data center so customers can utilize the same infrastructure services, tooling and skill sets for deployments in both public and private clouds. Customers deploying workloads within the Oracle Cloud, Compute Cloud@Customer, and the Oracle Private Cloud Appliance have a consistent and uniform development experience.
