Why Oracle Cloud?
This Logicalis customer needed a disaster recovery solution for their ten terabyte Exadata data warehouse system. The customer had a cloud-first strategy and tried to find the best cloud for its workload. After considering multiple cloud solutions, the customer decided that Oracle Cloud was their best option, because it provides them with the level of performance and security that only the Exadata Cloud Service can offer.
Setting up their Disaster Recovery Database in the Oracle Cloud enabled Logicalis’ customer to scale their cloud usage when switching over to the cloud in future in addition to having saved on licensing costs by choosing Oracle Cloud. According to plan, the customer’s on-premises deployment will eventually be phased out and Exadata Cloud Service will become the primary production environment.

Using the power of Oracle ZDM, Logicalis helped their customer set up a Data Guard environment while benefitting from other marquee features of the Oracle Database such as Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Oracle Partitioning.
Zero Downtime Migration to the Oracle Cloud
Cloud migrations can be complex, but with Oracle ZDM, Logicalis managed to set up a migration process that ran completely automated. Once the required configuration was established, the actual migration process was a breeze. The whole migration completed quickly, with the new database up and running in no time and without major interruptions. Even Logicalis’ experienced Database Administrators (DBA) were impressed by how smoothly the whole process went. One of the DBAs said:
“You start Oracle ZDM on Friday evening, and the migration of 10 TB will be finished on Monday, including backup to object storage, restore, database encryption, and Data Guard configuration.”
