Large mission critical applications may experience downtime for tens of hours, or even longer, while the application’s database components are updated during an application upgrade. Enterprises are looking for a viable solution for performing application upgrades and enabling continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes to ensure maximum flexibility and availability.
This hands-on lab covers evolving your applications built on top of Oracle Database entirely online. We will use Oracle Autonomous Database including unique Oracle Database features such as Edition-Based Redefinition (EBR), Online Redefenition and Reorganization (DBMS_REDEFINITION). Along with this we will utilize some development tools including Oracle SQL Developer Command Line (SQLcl) integration with Liquibase which can be easily integrated with popular continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
Below are the high level objectives of this hands-on lab
- Create and connect to Oracle Autonomous Database
- Download Oracle Autonomous Database wallet and lab files
- Prepare and review the sample HR schema
- Use Liquibase to generate the schema
- Create the directory structure for the changelogs and sync the metadata
- Review and update the new edition scripts
- Verify the new edition
- Switch to the new edition and decommission the old edition
