Data Protection: What you don't know can hurt you

Organizations have always backed up data, even before there were computers. One would think backing up and recovering digital data would be a “no brainer” by now, but misinformation and assumptions about its true abilities persist. Since backups are the last line of defense against equipment failures, disasters, and ransomware, what you don’t know about your backups could impact your ability to recover crucial data after a ransomware attack.

Two data protection blind spots that many customers overlook when architecting their backup and recovery strategies are thinking that database backups can be treated just like file system backups and believing that backups can always be successfully restored and recovered.

Unfortunately, neither of these beliefs is true. Given the increasing threat of ransomware and cost of downtime, it’s especially important to have confidence that backups of your business and mission-critical data are recoverable. If you aren’t 100% (at least 95%) confident of the recoverability of your backups, it’s time you ask more from your database backup solution.

In his Oracle Database World session, Kelly Smith, Product Manager for Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance discusses these and other challenges and highlights the Recovery Appliance’s database aware backup, data validation, recovery, alerting and reporting capabilities. Watch Kelly’s session to learn how Recovery Appliance enables organizations to automate database backup and recovery while providing continuous data protection with less than a second of potential data loss—just what you need to quickly recover from ransomware attacks with 100% confidence.
