What do you think your company’s CFO would prefer: more coffee breaks for the finance team, or more analysis? At China’s Kingold Group, a multi-industry conglomerate with more than 10,000 employees and business operations across Australia, China, and Europe, one critical financial report used to take about 12 minutes to run. That was enough time for a quick coffee break. This and other time-consuming processes meant that reports would be run less frequently than was optimal, or that new data dimensions would be ignored for fear of taking too much time.
That changed when the company moved the database from an on-premises server to Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer, explains CIO Steven Chang. “Now it takes about 40 seconds,” Chang says. The last time he spoke with us, Chang described how Cloud at Customer allowed Kingold Group to transform its legacy infrastructure to a cloud architecture while ensuring that its data was secure within its own data center.
Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer is a cloud offering that is provided in the customer’s data center and offers the simplicity of the cloud coupled with the control of an on-premises deployment. This solution gives users the following advantages, all in a proven mission-critical database and platform:
Exadata Cloud at Customer not only gave Kingold’s financial team more time to uncover meaningful insights from its data. It also freed up Chang’s IT team from day-to-day systems management, so they could turn their expertise to delivering innovation to the company and to its discerning customers. For example, a four-person Kingold IT team in the conglomerate’s real estate division wrote a program to glean property listings in top prospect markets, creating a database of highly desirable acquisitions for the M&A group to consider.
Chang is particularly impressed at how easy it has been to lift-and-shift critical systems from legacy infrastructure to Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer. “It took us only 7 days to lift-and-shift from (Microsoft) Azure, and we were able to reduce the cost by 44%,” he reports.
Increased performance, improved data sovereignty, and no-hassle security patches and maintenance, as well as reduced cost, are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits Kingold realized with the move to Exadata Cloud at Customer. Flexible scaling has also helped support the company’s growth goals.
What’s more, Exadata Cloud at Customer offers a straightforward and promising path to a future in the cloud. “For the first time in my life,” says Chang, “I think I can kind of see into the future and be able to realize my dream.”
