Advanced security, improved maintenance, and lower costs: all with sustainability at the forefront.
Located in Pamplona, Spain, University of Navarra (UNAV) is one of the top private universities in the country, and its high studies IESE business school ranks within the top 10 globally.
The university prides itself on unique opportunities for students, including renowned mentoring programs, a great base location for exploring, Navarrese dining traditions, and even a fantastic party atmosphere contributed to by the city’s annual ‘San Fermin’ festival.
Thanks to this rich history and reputation, UNAV attracts around 12,000 students every year. But there was one element that needed improving to make their experience even better: the enrolment process.
Employees need to complete tasks ahead of the new term to accommodate thousands of future pupils, such as creating student groups, organising schedules, and assigning teachers. This critical activity relies on a heavy use of resources to be completed effectively.
However, staff were encountering issues, particularly during the busy months of May and June. The previous software UNAV used was deprecated and prone to security vulnerabilities, and so could not cope with the demand. It was also relying on outdated on-premises software, which was time-consuming to maintain.

UNAV decided to move its content and analytics platform to Oracle Cloud with help from Oracle Consulting and Lift Services, reducing costs and – most importantly – minimising security vulnerabilities.
The main requirements of the project included:
- A modern and scalable solution
- Greater flexibility
- Improved security integration
- New analytical services
- Easy deployment and management
- Better control of system costs
A custom solution was built for the customer using an integrated approach, consisting of WebCenter Content (WCC) and Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) to ensure that the essential enrolment resources could be used efficiently even in periods of high volume, with the ability to easily add and manage them. A high-end Oracle security software with automatic updates was also introduced.
“Thanks to the migration of our Analytics systems to OAC, we can keep the platform effortlessly updated and greatly simplify its maintenance operations” – Iñaki Sánchez, Technical Manager, Technology and Operations at Universidad de Navarra
Sustainability doesn’t have to be an afterthought
From the very start of conversations with Oracle, UNAV outlined that sustainability was a key objective in line with its Sustainability Strategy 2025.
This use case serves as a solid example of how Oracle projects can be delivered with a sustainable focus, by prioritising simple tactics that can dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of all parties.
The solution runs entirely remotely, switches the customer from on-premises to the cloud, and reduces paper use with the Content Management system.
Oracle Consulting’s Zero Carbon delivery program is now incorporated into every Consulting engagement, in order to reduce emissions and meet both company targets, and those of customers.
100% cloud focused
After going live with the solution earlier this year, UNAV has up-to-date systems, reduced complexity, as well as increased maintenance and security.
Key benefits include:
- More efficient student enrolment process
- Both historical and current data centralized in one place
- Improved security
- Automatic updates
- Scalability and flexibility for the future
And talking of the future, plans are in place for further collaborations to support UNAV’s one hundred percent cloud-focused strategy.
In the meantime, the transformation of the enrolment process means that staff can enable students to focus on what they do best: enjoying university life.
