Starting with Release 24C, Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM customers will get access to Smart Operations. Smart Operations is an initiative designed to improve performance and decision-making, starting with Oracle Cloud Manufacturing and Oracle Cloud Maintenance customers. The primary components of Smart Operations include:
- Automated data capture
- “Workbenches” for workers directly engaged in maintenance and manufacturing tasks
- AI-powered anomaly detection and recommendations
Read on for more details on how it all works.
Is SCM Smart Operations a product?
If you’re looking for a product summary of Oracle Cloud SCM Smart Operations, you won’t have much luck. That’s because it isn’t a product. It consists of multiple enhancements aimed at helping customers improve operations through the expanded use of Oracle Supply Chain Execution, which is a group of apps comprised of Oracle Manufacturing, Maintenance, Costing, Quality, and Inventory Management. There is no additional charge for Smart Operations, and it will be delivered as part of Fusion Apps quarterly updates.
Smart Operations capabilities include:
- Automating data capture and performing continuous monitoring of the factory floor, production equipment, and other assets. The data it captures is collectively known as operational technology (OT) data (i.e., from physical devices, processes, and events); OT data is different from information technology (IT) data, which is more typical of the information created and processed by Fusion Apps (i.e., front- and back-office data).
- Consolidating and processing OT and IT data in near real time to provide workers who are directly engaged in manufacturing and maintenance tasks with pertinent information, service histories, and assistance if needed.
- Using AI—including GenAI—to automate anomaly detection and flag opportunities to increase production.
SCM Smart Operations for Manufacturing
Oracle Manufacturing will get two initial enhancements: the Operator Workbench and the Production Supervisor Workbench. Among other functions, they’ll provide a single user interface for reviewing manufacturing work orders and quality information. Industries with the most compelling initial use cases include industrial manufacturing, high-tech, and eventually, food and beverage.
SCM Smart Operations for Maintenance
Oracle Maintenance will add a Maintenance Technician Workbench to provide corrective-action recommendations, service history, and certification information. It will also include GenAI features to help staff document work progress and other pertinent information. We expect strong uptake for a variety of maintenance types including fixed equipment, vehicle fleets, and facilities. In the maintenance space, Smart Operations is applicable to a wide range of industries, especially industrial manufacturing, high-tech, food and beverage, wholesale and distribution, transportation, logistics, healthcare, and telecom.
