Many of Oracle's customers have been running Documerge on z/OS for decades. According to Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy as of 24 January 2024, Documerge 3.1 and earlier as well as Documerge 3.2 (released in January 2003) are currently in sustaining support indefinitely. Sustaining support provides access to Oracle online support tools, upgrade rights, pre-existing fixes, and assistance from technical support experts.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Is there a planned end for sustaining support of Documerge? No. Documerge has been on sustaining support since Oracle acquired Skywire Software in 2008, and as of the time of this writing, there are no plans to change the support status.
  2. Is there an ultimate end of life when this product will no longer function, e.g. will some future version of z/OS render Documerge non-functional? While it would be great if we could predict the future, the reality is that we cannot. Oracle is not aware of any issues when running Documerge 3.2 on the IBM zSeries platform.  Please note that certain features including, but not limited to, the following are not supported by Documerge:
  • 64-bit addressing
  • VDRs and exit programs can use 24-bit or 31-bit addressing, but not 64-bit addressing mode
  • Extended Address Volume (EVA)

All that said, Oracle is no longer testing the software on newer releases of z/OS and recommends migrating Documerge deployments to Oracle Documaker (Windows, Linux, Hosted) or Oracle Communication Cloud Service (SaaS). If a future version of z/OS creates an incompatibility Oracle will not be able to resolve the issue with a Documerge software update.
