For most of us, our day-to-day experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) involves a little pop-up window on a retail web site asking if we need help finding a product or remembering a password. But AI has far greater potential than as a shopping assistant — the potential to change the world in profound and significant ways. This program explores that potential through a conversation with a leading expert in AI.

Dr. David HulmeDr. Daniel Hulme  [@TheSolveEngine] is the CEO of Satalia and is the Computer Science Entrepreneur in Residence at University College of London, where he earned both his Master’s and PhD in Artificial Intelligence. Hulme is also on the faculty at Singularity University, he’s a lecturer at the Marshall Institute at the London School of Economics, and is the recipient of an international Kauffman Global Entrepreneur Scholarship. In addition to frequent conference presentations around the world, he is also a frequent speaker on TEDx talks videos.

Dr. Hulme believes that AI can transform the human experience — if we as a species can get out of our own way. “Benchmarking machines against humans is not a sensible thing to do,” according to Dr. Hulme, “because I would argue that humans are not very intelligent.”

Javed MohammedGroundbreaker Podcast associate producer Javed Mohammed [@JavedMohammed] first encountered Dr. Hulme in January 2020 at Oracle OpenWorld Middle East in Dubai, where Dr. Hulme, a featured speaker, delivered a session on “AI and the Future of Business” as part of the Transformational Technologies track. ”I was so impressed with his vision and his unconventional thinking,” Javed says. This program, which features Javed’s conversation with Dr. Hulme, grew out of their meeting in Dubai.

This interview was recorded via Zoom on April 1, 2020.
