Even more new features added to Autonomous Database in April

We are continually adding new features to Autonomous Database. Over the LAST 12 MONTHS OVER +170 NEW FEATURES have been added, and the latest update included the following: 

1. SNAPSHOT STANDBYS FOR X-REGION DR - a disaster recovery cross-region peer can be converted to a snapshot standby - a read-write database - for up to two days. 
2. SINGLETON PIPES IN DBMS_PIPE - using a Singleton Pipe, you can send and retrieve a custom message and share the message across multiple database sessions with concurrent reads.
3. SEND NOTIFICATIONS TO MICROSOFT TEAMS - send messages, alerts, or the output of a query from Autonomous Database to a Microsoft Teams Channel. 
4. SEND EMAILS USING DBMS_CLOUD_NOTIFICATION - Send emails to a public SMTP endpoint using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Email Delivery service. 
5. OML SERVICES BATCH SCORING - batch scoring for in-database models using REST endpoints for more optimal scalability and efficiency.
6. NEXT-GENERATION OML NOTEBOOKS - an enhanced web-based notebook platform for data analysts and data scientists.
7. STRATEGIC CUSTOMER PROGRAM FOR AUTONOMOUS DATABASE - expert-led advice and guidance on successfully designing and rolling out an ADB project.
8. Oracle Global Leaders summer events in Nashville and Sofia

 SIMPLER MANAGEMENT

ADB makes deploying and managing application workloads easier regardless of complexity, scale, or criticality.

SNAPSHOT STANDBYS FOR CROSS-REGION DR

FEATURE OVERVIEW

A cross-region peer can be converted to a snapshot standby. This converts the peer to a read-write database for up to two days. 

Snapshot standby CPU usage is billed based on the base CPU count and any additional CPU usage if compute auto-scaling is enabled.

BUSINESS BENEFIT

This feature significantly improves the overall cost-effectiveness of Autonomous Database where customers have enabled Autonomous Data Guard. 

It allows the snapshot standby to be used for testing and querying the data with no downtime on the primary (source) database. 

Using a snapshot standby, you can make configuration changes or perform DML operations on the database as needed for complete testing and verification of the standby environment.

SINGLETON PIPES IN DBMS_PIPE

FEATURE OVERVIEW

The DBMS_PIPE package allows two or more database sessions to communicate using in-memory messages. 

Singleton Pipe is an addition to the DBMS_PIPE package that allows you to cache and retrieve a custom message and share the message across multiple database sessions with concurrent reads.

BUSINESS BENEFIT

Cloud admins and application developers can use the pipe functionality in several ways: as an external service interface, debugging, independent transactions, and alerts.

SEND NOTIFICATIONS TO MICROSOFT TEAMS

FEATURE OVERVIEW

Microsoft Teams channels can now receive messages, alerts, or output of a query from Autonomous Database using DBMS_CLOUD_NOTIFICATION. 

BUSINESS BENEFIT

This makes it easier for customers who use Microsoft Teams to integrate directly with operations related to activities within Autonomous Database.

SEND EMAILS FROM AUTONOMOUS DATABASE

FEATURE OVERVIEW

Use the DBMS_CLOUD_NOTIFICATION package to send messages and query results as emails to public SMTP endpoints. Note that Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Email Delivery Service is the only supported email provider. 

BUSINESS BENEFIT

This makes it easier to send query results or send messages via email using Autonomous Database to groups or individuals.

OML SERVICES BATCH SCORING

FEATURE OVERVIEW

Oracle Machine Learning Services (OML Services) on Oracle Autonomous Database now supports batch scoring for in-database models using REST endpoints. With OML Services, models can now be deployed through REST endpoints hosted in Oracle Autonomous Database to enable batch scoring. 

OML Services supports batch scoring for regression, classification, clustering, and feature extraction machine learning techniques.

BUSINESS BENEFIT

This new approach to batch scoring means that both the source data and scoring results remain inside the Autonomous Database, which means reduced latency and more optimal scalability and efficiency. 

Unlike other solutions that require provisioning a VM for 24 - 7 availability, OML Services is included with Oracle Autonomous Database, so users pay only for the additional compute when producing actual predictions.

NEXT-GENERATION OML NOTEBOOKS

FEATURE OVERVIEW

The new OML Notebooks interface, OML Notebooks EA, is now generally available across all regions. This new interface is provided alongside the current environment to give your customers the opportunity to explore this new functionality and convert existing notebooks over the coming months to the new environment with the simple click of a button. 

New features include:

• faster notebook loading times
• new Oracle "Redwood" look and feel
• Jupyter and Zeppelin layouts
• richer visualization
• individual paragraph comments and dependencies

BUSINESS BENEFIT

OML Notebooks are automatically provisioned and managed within Autonomous Database. OML Notebooks enable creating conda environments with custom-installed third-party R and Python packages for OML4Py and OML4R.
