Khalil Mrini
Principal Applied Scientist, Oracle AI Science
Dr. Khalil Mrini is a Principal Applied Scientist at Oracle, where he researches large language models (LLMs) and AI agents. His work focuses on evaluating and aligning generative AI, improving language understanding, and building language technologies for underrepresented languages. His research spans natural language processing (NLP), conversational agents, multimodal LLM evaluation, text-to-image generation, and AI applications for consumer health.
Khalil has authored more than 30 publications, with work appearing at leading venues including ACL, EMNLP, EACL, NAACL, and COLING. His recent Agent-Testing Agent research, presented orally at EACL 2026, explores automated testing and evaluation of conversational AI agents. His research has received a Best Student Paper Award and a Best Shared Task Contribution Award. He has also delivered 18 invited lectures, tutorials, and panels across four continents.
Before joining Oracle, Khalil held research roles at Grammarly, TikTok, and Meta and completed research internships at Adobe Research, Amazon Alexa, Meta AI, and Google Brain. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California San Diego, where his dissertation received the department’s Doctoral Dissertation Award. His doctoral research was supported by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, an Amazon Research Award, and Adobe Research gifts. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science from EPFL.
Khalil co-founded North Africans in NLP, co-organizes the ArabicNLP conference, and mentors students and early-career researchers entering NLP.
