Oracle APEX 23.1 is now generally available for download and is rolling out to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) regions across the globe this week! When APEX 23.1 arrives in a cloud region, all newly provisioned Autonomous Databases and APEX Service instances will include the new release. Existing users of these services can upgrade to APEX 23.1 with a click of a button or an API call.

Oracle APEX is the world’s most popular low-code application platform that enables you to build scalable, secure enterprise apps, with world-class features, that can be deployed anywhere – on-premises, public or private cloud. Oracle APEX is available as a standalone fully managed service in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and is also included as a no-cost feature with any Oracle Database services including Autonomous Database.

This release introduces Template Components, PWA Push Notifications, Modernised Object Browser, Page Processing Improvements, REST Data Source Enhancements, new and updated components, numerous enhancements to the Developer Experience, and a whole lot more!

Here are some of the feature highlights in Oracle APEX 23.1.

Template Components

Introducing Template Components, a new plug-in type for building re-usable UI components with support for actions, menus, and custom attributes within Page Designer. These components can be rendered standalone as regions displaying one or multiple rows of data, and can also be within reports as partials for a column.

PWA Push Notifications

Low code push notifications, made available with a single switch. Easily notify desktop and mobile users who’ve opted-in to receive push notifications. Watch Video!

Modernised Object Browser

The improved Object Browser delivers a more accessible and streamlined user experience that makes managing database objects easier than ever before. You can now view and filter database objects of all types from a single tree. An enhanced editing experience makes it easy to continue editing the last object you were viewing, and ensures unsaved changes are never lost unintentionally with a new warning on navigation. Page Processing Improvements

Group a sequence of page processes to offload processing to the background or just simplify maintainability of conditional execution. The Execution Chain process type enables page processing to execute in the background so that users don’t have to wait until processing finishes. Watch Video!

REST Data Source Enhancements

REST Data Sources have been updated to provide more control over source discovery and responses. This release includes support Open API/Swagger for Simple HTTP Rest Data Source. Create a complete REST Data Source based on a response, including the data profile and additional metadata like operations, URL, or other parameters. Watch Video!

Improvements to APEX Administration

You can now monitor the health of your Instances, Workspaces, and Schemas with daily metrics and trend charts, made available daily in the new APEX Administrator Digest. Managing the creation of workspaces in an instance just got easier with a new UI and API that allows you to define and manage a block list of email patterns.

SQL Developer Web Integration

You can now open SQL Developer Web directly from the SQL Workshop menu in the menu bar. Supported on ORDS version 23.1 and must be configured at the instance level.

Approvals Component Enhancements

The Approvals component now supports due dates for creating approval tasks.

Universal Theme and UX Improvements

Universal Theme has been updated with new built-in Template Components, an enhanced Region Display Selector, improved page rendering performance, and more. You can now easily download and upload themes directly from the Theme Roller interface from the new Actions menu button. Watch Video!
