Arcor is an Argentine manufacturing company that specializes in food products including candies, confectionaries, and chocolates, as well as the packaging for those sweets. Established in 1951, Arcor operates globally, employs more than 20,000 employees, and has annual sales of more than ARS$85 million.
In 2016, Arcor needed a solution to integrate its information technology service management application—where its information technology infrastructure library is stored—with its database application that tracked data fixes. However, fixes were provided by a third party that required integration with that third-party's authentication, tools, and processes. The new solution needed to track incidences and resolutions, as well as provide reporting and auditing capabilities-and it all had to be implemented in a few short months.
Using Oracle Application Express and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Arcor built a unified solution that tracked incidences and resolutions. It also met compliance requirements to restrict access based on company and role, minimized human error, and even met audit requirements from PwC.
"Oracle Application Express was a good discovery because it allowed us to build a solution in a couple of months, without experience on it, integrating part of our IT infrastructure compliance to our audit processes. In addition, the users easily accepted the look and feel, and they are using a lot of tools that Oracle Application Express includes out of the box. And since we use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we can easily scale up as our APEX apps grow," says Juan Carlos Monteros, Arcor's IT application leader.
Arcor's implementation partner, FILOMENI Sistemas Informáticos, has been using Oracle Application Express for more than 10 years. In the last decade, FILOMENI has developed and implemented successful applications for government organizations and corporate enterprises leveraging the competitive advantages offered with Oracle Application Express.
"For Arcor, Oracle Application Express allowed us to develop complex code for these data fixes. The code performs editions, executions, impact analysis, security and traceability of SQL code, controlling all processes, and successfully manages over 1,500 SQL sentences monthly over JD Edwards. What's most remarkable is that it only required two developers and 2 ½ months to write such complex code. Using traditional development, it would have taken a team of engineers and 6 months or more to develop," says Adrián Filomeni, CEO of FILOMENI Sistemas Informáticos.
Since its implementation in 2016, the database and the version of Oracle Application Express have also been upgraded with ease. “It’s important to highlight that since the implementation, we have updated the database version to 19C, migrated to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and upgraded Oracle Application Express version 4.2 to 18.2 with little effort and almost without maintenance" says Monteros.
