Savantage upgraded its Asset Management software with Oracle APEX to deliver better service to Federal Government users.


Business challenges

Savantage Solutions is a provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions tailored to the needs of the U.S. federal market. Its flagship product is the Altimate Enterprise Suite of products, designed for financial management and budget processing for clients, serving as a federal agency’s financial system of record. One of Savantage Solution’s primary objectives, as a small company that frequently faces competition from large technology firms, is to ensure that its solutions remain at the forefront of the market. The company has always worked to make the most of Oracle’s technology to improve the performance and security of its clients’ operations.  
 
Savantage Solutions upgraded its products, including its Asset Management module within Altimate, so that it can offer its clients a more intuitive and sophisticated user experience, with enhanced capabilities that improves reporting and data visualization, while offering browser independence and boosting security.  Savantage also wanted the upgraded application to make the most of Oracle’s latest technology.

Why did Savantage Solutions choose Oracle APEX?

Savantage Solutions decided to implement Oracle’s low-code enterprise application development platform (APEX) because it was a natural upgrade option for our products and solutions, which have years of alignment with Oracle’s database and PL/SQL logic. The sophistication of APEX technology, its ability to deliver a browser-independent solution, as well as improve usability, customer experience, and security, were also factors that led Savantage to select Oracle APEX. Savantage wanted to use Oracle APEX to deliver greater ease of use, reporting and data analysis and visualization capabilities to its end users.

Further, the growing APEX professional community of professionals was also a deciding factor. Savantage partnered with PITSS America, an Oracle Gold Partner with expertise in Oracle APEX, for this project.  
 
Savantage’s experience providing quality technology solutions to its customers using Oracle technology for nearly three decades also meant it could leverage its existing core competencies in Oracle software application development easily in adopting Oracle APEX. Because of this, the company took into account the ease of use, speed of development and built-in security features of Oracle’s low-code enterprise application development platform.  
 

With Oracle APEX, Savantage Solutions has the ability to create and deliver state-of-the-art enterprise business solutions to its Federal customers. 


Results

Using Oracle APEX, Savantage was able to upgrade its own Asset Management software module, so that Federal clients can manage budgets and financial transactions, as well as reporting and analysis, related to an agency’s asset portfolio. For example, Savantage’s Asset module supports processing and tracking of depreciation of different asset classes, the processing of gains or losses related to the disposal or retirement of assets, etc.

The use of Oracle APEX reduced time to market for the Asset Management module by 37.5%, while the other KPIs, both internal and customer KPIs, remained relatively constant and well above market standards.

On top of greater ease of maintenance and usability for the customer, Savantage Solutions’ workforce also benefited from the implementation of Oracle’s low-code solution. Consultants (professionals not considered IT and/or programmers) can now be more involved in the software product development lifecycle, which improves their professional skills and satisfaction, while programmers can tackle more complex programming challenges, which also improves their professional skills and satisfaction.

Savantage also plans to offer their expertise as a service to the Federal market, for agencies that may be looking to improve existing business applications with Oracle APEX.

The two-month implementation was completed by Savantage in partnership with Oracle and PITSS America. 
 
This migration process started with a complete analysis of the existing Forms and Database Sources with PITSS America’s conversion analysis tool, to identify effort, obstacles, and calculate dependencies with any other COTS modules and products. As a result of the analysis, the upgrade process was significantly streamlined.
