Last week, we launched ACE Spotlight with a simple idea: to introduce you to the people behind the expertise that makes the Oracle ACE community so special.
Oracle ACEs come from different countries, cultures, career paths, and areas of expertise. Some have been part of the Oracle ecosystem for decades, while others are newer to the community. What connects them is a passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and helping others succeed — values that are at the heart of the Oracle ACE Program.
Every week, ACE Spotlight takes us somewhere new to meet another member of this global community.
This week, our journey takes us from the United States all the way to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where we meet
Oracle ACE Associate Voeurng Sovann
the first person from Cambodia to become an Oracle ACE.
Since Sovann joined the program in June 2026, Cambodia has already welcomed another ACE, making his story a fitting example of how our global community continues to grow.
🌍 Where in the World Are You?
My full name is Voeurng Sovann, but you can call me Sovann. I live in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where I have worked and lived for more than 10 years.
One interesting fact about Phnom Penh is its location at the meeting point of four waterways — the Upper Mekong, Lower Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac rivers — an area known locally as the Four Faces River.
🎉 Three Fun Facts About Me
I became the first Oracle ACE in Cambodia when I joined the program as an Oracle ACE Associate in June 2026. It was an achievement I could hardly believe — and I’m especially happy that our Cambodian ACE community is already growing!
I enjoy sharing my Oracle Database knowledge and experiences through LinkedIn and my blog, Oracle DB Insight, and it has been rewarding to see people from the global DBA community discovering and reading what I share.
I’ve also earned multiple professional certifications and digital badges while continuing to develop my expertise in Oracle and cloud technologies.
☕ My Perfect Weekend
My weekends are about spending time with my wife, son, and daughter.
In the mornings, we like to go to a mall or one of Phnom Penh’s public parks so the children can run around and enjoy themselves.

I became an Oracle ACE Associate in June 2026 — and the first Oracle ACE from Cambodia.
🚀 My Oracle Journey
My Oracle journey began in 2014, when I started working as an Oracle DBA in the banking industry.
I later moved into telecommunications before becoming an Oracle solution architect and implementer, installing and configuring Oracle Database environments not only in Cambodia, but also in countries including Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
Today, I work as a Database Support Manager for a systems integration company, where my role combines Oracle Database expertise, project implementation, support, and managing teams across different countries.
I discovered the Oracle ACE Program through LinkedIn. After learning more about the program through the Oracle website, I started my own blog to share the experiences and knowledge I had gained from working with Oracle Database.
That journey eventually led me to becoming an Oracle ACE Associate in June 2026 — and the first Oracle ACE from Cambodia.
💡 One Oracle Feature More People Should Know About
One Oracle Database technology I particularly value is Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).
In industries such as banking, where Oracle Database supports critical systems and continuously growing amounts of data, availability is extremely important.
Oracle RAC helps provide the high availability and workload management that enterprise applications require.
🛠️ A Project I’m Proud Of
One project I’ll never forget involved migrating an Oracle Database across platforms with minimal downtime — from IBM AIX to Oracle Solaris on SPARC.
Because the system supported the banking industry, downtime had to be kept to a minimum.
I worked day and night on the migration, focusing not only on moving the database successfully but also on optimizing performance and ensuring the new environment was ready to support the workload.
It was a demanding project, but also one of the experiences that helped shape my career.
📚 What I’m Learning Right Now
I’m currently learning more about Oracle GoldenGate.
Real-time replication, change data capture, data streaming, and integration are increasingly valuable skills for the type of database migration work I do.
My goal is to strengthen my GoldenGate expertise so I can take on more zero-downtime and near-zero-downtime migration scenarios in the future.

Troubleshooting Oracle Database performance issues is one of the parts of my career I enjoy most, and I’m always happy to share practical experiences with others who are working through similar challenges.
🌟 Advice for Aspiring Oracle ACEs
For me, becoming an Oracle ACE is about sharing what you know from real experience.
Oracle DBAs encounter difficult problems every day. If something I learned while solving one of those problems can help another DBA avoid the same mistake or resolve an issue more quickly, then that experience is worth sharing.
That’s one of the reasons I joined the Oracle ACE community.

And perhaps one of the best parts of this particular story is that Sovann is no longer Cambodia’s only Oracle ACE. The community he was the first to represent is already growing.
That willingness to learn, share, and help others is what connects Oracle ACEs around the world.
