Oracle CloudWorld starts in just two weeks! Designed for all Oracle customers and partners, CloudWorld is the best place to learn about Oracle solutions—including infrastructure, databases, and applications—from the people who build and use them. We wanted to highlight the Oracle ACE sessions you can attend on September 19, 2023. The Oracle ACEs speakers will cover everything from OCI, Kubernetes, APEX, GoldenGate to SQL.
Basheer Khan, Oracle ACE Director and Debra Lilley, Oracle ACE Director:
- Extending Oracle Fusion Cloud Apps – What We Learned (02:00 pm – 02:45 pm PDT)
Customers and Oracle product managers share their experience and the lessons they learned developing extensions to Oracle Fusion Cloud apps. Oracle Fusion Cloud apps provide extensive functionality out of the box, but sometimes customers have specific requirements that are not addressed by the out-of-the-box functionality. We share the lessons learned developing such extensions using Oracle Visual Builder. Come and learn when, why, and how to create extensions that seamlessly integrate with Oracle’s SaaS offering.
Dan Vlamis, Oracle ACE Director and Tim Vlamis, Oracle ACE Director :
- Analytics In Action: Real-World Lessons From The Trenches (02:25 pm – 02:45 pm PDT)
Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse boast an enormous array of tools, options, and capabilities. Find out which new features are generating immediate results in real-world implementations as we cover machine learning, data visualization, graph analytics, and map-based location analytics. We also cover data modeling and integration best practices for business-led analytics initiatives using new tools like Data Studio and Data Insights, plus how to leverage tools for coordinated approaches applied across large enterprises.
Gavin Soorma, Oracle ACE Director:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure GoldenGate for Multicloud Use Cases (11:30 am – 12:15 pm PDT)
Did you know that Oracle GoldenGate is the foundation for thousands of customers running multicloud transaction fabrics? Every day, billions of transactions flow between Oracle Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud via real-time pipelines from GoldenGate. If you’re interested in making data available between different cloud, database, and lakehouse technologies, come learn how these multicloud “mesh” architectures actually work to provide real-time streaming data across data centers, cloud regions, and global continents. Plus, listen as a GoldenGate customer speaks about real-world experiences in multicloud deployments.
Johan Almqvist, Oracle ACE Associate:
- The Missing Link: Using Terraform And Ansible Together (11:30 am – 11:50 am PDT)
See how to use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Ansible extensions and instance principals to retrieve configuration and tags from Terraform into Ansible scripts, and look at other options such as cloud-init and Puppet.
Julian Dontcheff, Oracle ACE Director:
- Help! My Database Is Still On 8i! (05:00 pm – 05:45 pm PDT)
Do you have an old Oracle database? No, not 10g; I mean a really old Oracle database like Oracle Database 9i, 8i, or even 7? If so, then this session is for you! The Oracle Database upgrade development team gives insights into how to handle those old databases that are no longer under premier or even extended support. How can you modernize them? What support options are available? Learn useful, practical information that will help you plan your path forward for your oldest databases.
- SQL Tuning for Experts: New And Improved Tools For DBAs And Developers (08:30 am – 09:15 am PDT)
New and improved SQL tuning capabilities are now available—useful whether you’re developing application code or tuning poorly performing SQL. Real-time, in-depth analysis of SQL statement executions can be obtained for the entire database or a single session, providing powerful insights into overall SQL performance. SQL Monitoring analyzes execution plans to highlight expensive operations, render graphical explain plans, validate hint usage, and more. Learn about these new features and become a SQL tuning champion!
Matias Helskyaho, Oracle ACE Associate :
- Oracle APEX and LinkedIn: Build Your Own Algorithms With Your Content (12:45 pm – 01:30 pm PDT)
In a world of algorithms and socializing, we often can’t find the content we need or want to personalize—we’re just kind of told which algorithms to accept. Let’s look into the world of LinkedIn and generate an app we can use to determine the best content for our use case. Together with Oracle APEX and Oracle Autonomous Database (ADB), we can integrate machine learning in our own style.
Monty Latiolais, Oracle ACE Associate :
- You Can Bet On Oracle APEX (05:00 pm – 05:45 pm PDT)
Explore the use of ESPN’s public APIs and Oracle APEX automations used to source a betting application (totally for fun, of course). This session is technical in nature and involves the code needed to construct these REST calls, JSON parsing of the results, and the scheduling of these REST calls. We finish by building a compelling application around these APIs that your users will love. Gambling problems? Call 800-522-4700.
Rolando Carrasco, Oracle ACE Director:
- Make Your Oracle Kubernetes Cluster Invisible To Attackers (02:00 pm – 02:45 pm PDT)
There are many use cases where other networks need to access services deployed on top of your Kubernetes (K8s) cluster. From the K8s API endpoint, it would be useful to have it as secure as possible; however, we also occasionally need it to be accessible from the internet—and that can make it vulnerable. We need to be more efficient in protecting both the cluster access and the services that run on top of it. Learn how OpenZiti/NetFoundry.io can help us protect our cluster—even when we need to access it from a public network—while also not requiring a single open port in the firewall and having all the cluster elements running within a private subnet.
Ruben Rodriguez, Oracle ACE Director:
- Deploying Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Environments With Terraform (12:45 pm – 01:30 pm PDT)
In recent years, infrastructure as code (IaC) has been one of the most relevant revolutions in IT systems management—leaving behind old concepts such as manual processes and physical hardware and giving way to automatic processes and virtualized hardware. In the immediate future, all system administrators will have to be programmers. This session lets you work with Terraform, one of the most widely used IaC programming languages, which allows the connection with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to manage their services deploying an OCI environment is simpler.
Simo Vilmunen
- OKE—Why It Makes Sense to Use Kubernetes in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (8:30 AM – 9:15 AM PDT)
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Container Engine for Kubernetes (OKE) is one of the flagship services of OCI, yet we don’t hear enough about it. Do you know there are several benefits on using OKE directly on OCI and not doing it on any other cloud provider? We cover core OKE functionality from a deployment perspective, as well as lessons learned on using it and best practices when deploying OKE on OCI from a security and network perspective. Discover how all the built-in automation—as well as integration with other OCI services—can help you. Once you learn these integrations and deployment capabilities, you can find a good way forward with OKE.
Stefan Oehrli, Oracle ACE Pro :
- Managing Database Security Posture With Oracle Audit Vault And Database Firewall (12:45 pm – 01:30 pm PDT)
Did you follow best practices when you securely configured your Oracle databases? Are you in compliance with your organization’s security standards? With industry best practices? You might even ask, “What else should I consider to further protect my Oracle database?” A big part of managing your database’s security posture is knowing how you are configured and where your weaknesses are. Join Oracle’s product managers and Accenture to learn how Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall (AVDF) evolved from database activity monitoring to a full-featured database security posture management solution, and how AVDF is used in real-world deployments.
