As hybrid work became the new norm, enterprises needed a solution that not only protects sensitive data but also scales effortlessly to support a global workforce. When we first introduced Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Secure Desktops, our goal was clear: to provide enterprises with a secure, robust, and easy-to-manage Desktop as a Service (DaaS) solution. Over the past year, we’ve seen tremendous adoption across industries—IT services, healthcare, finance, and more—each with unique security and flexibility requirements.
Today, we’re excited to unveil the next chapter in this journey, delivering a new set of powerful features that amplify security and offer flexibility for enterprises worldwide. This update offers new capabilities that address the dynamic needs of today’s businesses. Oracle is enhancing the security of your most critical data and offering the flexibility to scale and adapt in ways that can transform your digital operations.
About OCI Secure Desktops
Secure Desktops is a managed service in OCI that provides a centrally controlled deployment of virtual desktops to enhance security of data and applications running on Oracle Linux or Microsoft Windows operating systems. Secure Desktops enables you to select a virtual machine (VM) shape to match your wanted performance and capacity. You can rapidly deploy desktops from golden images to support increasing demand. Users directly and securely connect to their desktops from their location. The Secure Desktops service supports from tens to thousands of virtual desktops.
What’s new: Taking security and flexibility to the next level
This is a major step in OCI Secure Desktops development, including the following new features:
- Private endpoint access: With cybersecurity threats on the rise, safeguarding your network is paramount. One of the most significant enhancements is private endpoint access, which helps ensure that access to your virtual resources occurs securely within your private network. It enables a direct and secure access to resources within a private network, reducing exposure to public internet threats. Whether through your virtual cloud network (VCN) or your on-premises infrastructure, this direct connection delivers robust protection from external threats, providing you with complete control over your network environment.
- Hibernation: Efficiency is more than just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. Our new hibernation feature allows hibernating desktops and standby instances when they’re not being actively used. This feature optimizes resource usage and reduces operational costs. When the desktops are needed again, they come back online in seconds, making hibernation a perfect balance between performance and cost-saving.
- Flexible and burstable shapes: No two businesses are the same, and neither are their computing needs. Our solution now supports Flexible and Burstable Shapes providing adaptable computing power to meet varying workloads, encouraging cost-efficiency and high performance. Flexible shapes enable you to select the number of OCPUs and the amount of memory that you need for the workloads that run on the instance. Burstable shapes allows enterprises to accommodate performance needs for high-intensity tasks while remaining cost-efficient during lighter workloads.
- Multi-monitor support: This new feature enhances productivity with the ability to seamlessly operate across multiple monitors. It greatly enhances productivity, allowing users to manage complex workflows and multiple applications with ease. Whether you’re a developer, designer, or data analyst, multi-monitor functionality delivers the workspace flexibility you need to maximize efficiency.
