In the country

I was hoping to post to my blog a bit more regularly, but this week has been a bit crazy. My move to rural central Illinois went smoothly and I now feel like I'm definatly working remotely. I'm enjoying having a break from the bustle of Chicago.

Did some hacking on GDM2 this week. Worked with Bob Terek from the SunRay team to start getting changes implemented to support multiple Xservers, which will allow GDM2 to work better with environments like SunRay. Fixed the length of the username/password entry if PAM isn't installed, and added a neat feature by Andrew Case that makes GDM2 show a random theme each time the login screen appears.

Also working on getting the GNOME 2.10 code to build on Solaris and working through the issues I'm finding. Hopefully we'll be able to provide some preview packages to let Solaris people start playing with a newer GNOME.

I'm really looking forward to attending GUADEC in Stuttgard later this month, and am working with the GNOME ARC (Architecture Review Committee) to prepare presentations and discusssions about improving interface stability in a free software environment.
