An Oracle blog about BI Publisher

Multi Answer Reports

No, BIP has not become the ulltimate Oracle able to answer multiple questions - those of you using the BIEE/BIP integration will hopefully have noticed and read about the ability to pull an Answer, a BIEE report object if you will, into BIP as a datasource that you can now format using a publisher template.

What you may not have noticed is that you can pull multiple Answers into a single BIP report and create a template over the top of the combined data set. To achieve it we take advantage of the Concatenate Datasource functionality. All we need do it create multiple Answer based data sources:

then use the UI at the Data  Model level of the report tree and select 'Concatenated SQL Data Source'

... before you point out a problem. It's not one,  just an oversight on our part - I know you do not have SQL datasources but ignore that, we will concatenate your Answers into a single XML source.

another Easter Egg if you will.

    Hi Tim,
I'm having trouble with getting the concatenated datasource thingy to work properly. I have 2 separate sets of information coming from 2 answers requests to appear in my report, problem is everytime I choose a single dataset it includes the results of the 2nd one as a null entry. the xml looks fine (ie. 2 distinct datasets at the lowest level)
    Any ideas?
We're using OBIEE and BI Publisher

    Hi Tim,
I got a problem with the concatenated data set. When I click the "Excel Analyzer" button, I find that, data from two queries are being populated in the excel file as cartesian product. That means if we have 2 rows from first query and 3 records from 2nd qiery, the excel analyzer is loading total 6 records.
In xml, the data sources have different node.
What I want is to show the exact data in the excel analzer.
    What I am doing wrong?
