Reporting on Local Data
By Tim Dexter-Oracle on Oct 08, 2010
A departure from the norm today ... you get to sit back and watch something rather than read my ramblings. Listening to me for 10 minutes might be even worse I guess.
One of the many new features in BIP 11g is the new data model builder ... if you dig around you'll notice that you can now report on an Excel file. Even better you can join your excel data to another SQL data source and report on your local data alongside the centralized data ...cool.
Rather than write about it, I recorded it. Having finally found a screen recorder that 1. works and 2 does not cost anything. Without further ado ...
Im hoping to get this up to the BIP YouTube page soon but for now, its hosted on ScreenToaster. The blog template is only 600 pixels wide so the quality is not great. If you want to get the full 3D surround sound experience, just click here or hit the full screen icon option in the movie above.
Having listened to myself, do I really sound like that? I realized I forgot to mention that the Excel must be of the xls binary format and not the new xlsx type.
I'm so glad I don't have a web cam set up on my laptop ... now that would be scary :0)
For YouTube lovers everywhere the video is now mounted on t'tube
Direct link here. You might want to up the quality to 720p ... the upload to Tube has lost some of the quality.
