At every presentation I give the question on everyone's lips is, 'Can BIP do Bursting?' Well Im happy to say that several of the BIP implimentations have a bursting solution, thats PeopleSoft, E Business Suite and BIP Enterprise; JDE are not far off from an out of the box solution for customers.
What's bursting?
Well in your world it may have connections with eating too much and needing to loosen that belt or the after affects of drinking too much ... nuff said. In BIP's World its the ability to extract data for say, a batch of documents. Then split that batch data into the individual datasources, apply a layout to each, generate an output for each and then deliver the resulting documents to their final destination.
Take the following scenario where we have a salary report that we generate in a batch mode. We used to print it out, split it up for each manager and maybe mail it to each manager.
Each manager receives a copy of their report with their employee's data in it. Once the data is split you could just hardcode the layout, the output format and delivery but again thats not BIP's world. Here we make the whole format, generate and delivery process dynamic, it's data driven i.e. you may have some manager profile stored that records Manager A wants a PDF output using Template X and delivered via email as an attachment; Manager B however wants an HTML output generated using Template Y and sent to their portal page. With BIP they can receive the report in the format they want down the delivery channel they want.
Simple stuff eh?
The three implementations are similar and yet quite different, they all have common components:
but the way they have been implemented are different. They all have their pluses and of course no minuses but you will see some differences.
In the next few entries I'll cover in some detail the three implementations and hopefully get you on your way to sucessfully bursting your documents to your customers and users.
Thanks for this information,
This is ronny, i was trying to understand burstin in BIP. As i am new to the tool could you please tell me how bursting is implemented at basic level. please explicitly explain the difference between split by and deliver by feature.
Thanking you in anticipation
