Last week, I attended the 9th Annual Madam C.J.Walker Business and Community Recognition and Awards Luncheon on an invitation from our own Barbara Williams, President of the Oakland/Bay Area Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc.
Wow. What an afternoon of sound bites! Here are some that resonated with me :
"There is no sky" - Barbara Williams, on the message to teenage girls on their potential to grow and flourish in their careers
"Mama may not have been a who's who, but mama knows what's what!" - Dr. Julia Hare on the importance of the woman's role in stabilizing a family, and teaching the younger generation to respect its elders.
" Leaving a community better than you found it" - Chief Debra Pryor on what women should strive for with any community we encounter
"I got my start by giving myself a start" - Madam C.J.Walker (nee Sarah Breedlove, 1867-1919), the original female enterpreneur (www.madamcjwalker.com)
Things we know, but can and should continue to strive for..
I love feeling inspired (even on a Monday).
