Non card VDI for Sun Ray - Updated

Hi,

We've experienced some problems with the latest Sun Ray beta and the VDI session that does not require smartcards. Sarah has fixed them:

Have fun,

Is the source for vdaclient.jar available? If not, are there any command line arguments that can be fed to it to automate the login process? You see, we have eight SunRays setup as public terminals here in the university library. Since it is a library, we have to keep them completely open to the public without requiring usernames or passwords. I found ways around the password before, but we would like to get rid of the cards as well so that there's nothing to go missing.

Jarret,

I can't make the source code available. But why couldn't you just pass the pwd in the same way as you do with cards. I don't get that.

Perhaps there's a hole in my understanding of VDI, but let me explain my situation a bit first. I work in the Office of Information Technology of a regional university and I've been tasked with setting up a demo/POC of Sun VDI that will also function as public access terminals in the university library.

With a card, I can pass in the password by editing the standard vda session script and using -i and shell redirection when it calls the uttsc script, but we would like to do away with cards and logins completely for our public access terminals. When we roll out the system for students, cardless will be all that's necessary since the students will all have active directory usernames and passwords to use to access virtual desktops.

I was hoping to obtain the source code so that I could replace the login box with a box that created a unique identifier for the virtual machine name (as opposed to using the username) and had a "click here to login" button. The username/password not matter at all except that the java app must know whatever it is the golden image had set.

This would allow us to reach our goal of having all SunRays with AD authentication in the student labs and have "login buttons" on public access terminals.

My apologies for the long-windedness, but hopefully it all made sense...

Hi Jarret,

Sorry that it took that long to reply. I understand now in which direction you are heading. I can't share the source code that simple, but what you need a is really a small java program that gets you going. I'm sure you can google lot's of small examples that implement the dialog you need.
