Comments:

I think it's unfortunate that the GIMP UI issue is being singled out. I've worked briefly with Ellen Reitmayr on a Gutenprint UI issue and she did not strike me as being unreceptive or closed to other ideas.

Just like any other creative endeavor, sometimes a small group of people needs to focus on something without being constantly interrupted. There's nothing particularly sinister about this; it's just that large committees and constant second-guessing are seldom the most effective way of coming up with something new.

To be honest, I think that a lot of the reason this is even coming up is that they have created a wiki and are publishing brainstorms. That makes the process a lot more visible than it would be if they kept quiet about it, so ironically their being partially open about it is triggering these accusations of being closed. In any case, nothing here is stopping other people from coming up with their own ideas.

In any case, Peter Sikking has just created a blog (http://gimp-brainstorm.blogspot.com) to allow more structured input into the process.
