LiveMink: Announcing LiveMink

I have the privilege of meeting a wide range of fascinating people as a part of my job. It struck me a while back that interviews with some of those people would be very interesting for a wide audience, so I decided to have a go at podcasting. I've been loaned a LightSnake cable by its manufacturers, and that lets me use a Shure microphone directly with my Mac to handle recordings without needing any more clutter. I've also got a voice-recorder add-on for my iPod. Hopefully that means I'm always ready to sieze the moment and interview people in the limited time that's available between meetings and in transit.

I got started at the Sun analyst conference and learned a lot, both about recordings and about the people I met. I learned not to use GarageBand - it crashed while I was interviewing Jonathan Eunice from Illuminata and I lost everything. I also learned that the lack of controls on an iPod makes for dodgy recordings. But I did get great interviews with James Governor of Redmonk and with Michael Goulde of Forrester, both of which you'll find fascinating if you can put up with the pops and crackles of the iPod. I'll start podcasting those next week, so subscribe now in iTunes or whatever you use.
