We are pleased to announce that Oracle WebLogic Server 188.8.131.52.0 is now available for download on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN), and will be available on Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC) soon. WebLogic Server 184.108.40.206.0 is also referred as Patch Set 3 (PS3) for WebLogic Server 220.127.116.11.0, originally released in October 2015, and is being delivered as part of the overall Oracle Fusion Middleware 18.104.22.168.0 release.
WebLogic Server 12.2.1 Patch Sets include product maintenance and bug fixes for issues found since the initial 12.2.1 release, and we generally encourage WebLogic Server 12.2.1 users to adopt the latest Patch Set releases as they become available. PS3 contains all of the features supported in WebLogic Server 22.214.171.124.0, 126.96.36.199.0 (PS1) and 188.8.131.52.0 (PS2). Users running on prior 12.2.1 releases should consider moving to PS3 as soon as possible, and as makes sense within the context of their project plans. Users planning or considering upgrades from prior versions of WebLogic Server to WebLogic Server 12.2.1 should retarget their migration plans, as possible and as makes sense, to PS3. The Fusion Middleware 184.108.40.206.0 supported configurations matrix has been updated here.
Although WebLogic Server Patch Sets are intended primarily as maintenance vehicles, these releases also include a limited set of new feature capabilities that deliver incremental value without disrupting customers. These features are summarized in the WebLogic Server 220.127.116.11 documentation under What's New?. We will be describing some of these capabilities in detail in future blogs, but I'd like to mention two new security-related features here.
Secured Production Mode is a new configuration option to help secure production environments. As indicated in our security documentation, Secured Production Mode helps apply secure WebLogic configuration settings by default, or warns users if settings that should typically be used in secured environments are not being used. Oracle Identity Cloud Integrator is a new, optionally configurable, WebLogic Server security provider which allows you to use the Oracle Identity Cloud Service. Users running WebLogic Server 18.104.22.168, either on premises or in Oracle Cloud, can now use Identity Cloud Integrator to support integrated authentication and identity assertion with the same Identity Cloud Service used by Oracle Cloud PaaS and SaaS Services. We hope these features help you respond to evolving security requirements, and we've implemented these features such that they will not affect you unless you choose to enable them.
You should expect the Oracle Java Cloud Service, and other Oracle Cloud Services using WebLogic Server, to support 22.214.171.124 in the future. We are also updating our Docker images to support 126.96.36.199, and we hope to have more to say about WebLogic Server Docker support at Oracle Open World. And as noted in my prior post, we're working in a new WebLogic Server version that will support the upcoming Java EE 8 release.
So please start targeting your WebLogic Server 12.2.1 projects to WebLogic Server to WebLogic Server 188.8.131.52 to take advantage of the latest release with the latest features and maintenance. We hope to have more updates for you soon!
