New program for startups... Startup Essentials
By was on Nov 06, 2006
I'm proud to say I've helped work on the Startup Essentials program here at Sun. Basically, it's a way for startups to get deals on hardware, and they're great deals
I've been talking to several startups and trying to find common workloads. I've basically seen a recurring theme. There's a storage tier, a processing tier and a presentation tier. Not rocket science here, but the interesting aspect is they're frequently using the exact same tools - web 2.0 is consistent in the infrastructure layer!
I'm trying to figure out if I should publish more details on these tiers. Of course, I'm bound to get lots of comments on my choices of Sun hardware, but heck, I chose hardware for these tiers based on my real world experience of running www.sun.com - and the 41 high volume services we support (on 160+ servers externally backed by another 170 staging/build/dev machines in internal labs).
If you're interested in seeing my thoughts on hardware, drop me some comments!
