MS to buy Yahoo - how depressing

I've been using my yahoo email address forever as my non-work email address. I've never been a fan of using an email address from my ISP (which I could just as easily be using), mainly because I change ISPs like I change hardware (pretty darn often).

I'm not looking forward to changing email addresses and converting completely to google, but it certainly looks like that's in the cards. If MS buys Yahoo I'm likely to move. As much as MS says they won't change anything, I beg to differ. Look at hotmail, it was promised forever that they wouldn't change the interfaces, and then it went through iteration after iteration of significantly worse experiences until you get the complete piece of crap that is hotmail today (my wife is a longtime user).

I hope Yahoo stays free and separate - but I understand the financials as well - it's certainly a pretty sweet offer. If I was CEO it would be very hard to turn down.

I heard this rumor about three months ago. Between that and just the way all of there services have just been neglected made me move to G-mail after like 8 to 10 years using yahoo. I even had a Rocket-Mail account way back when. Them being owned by Microsoft was just the last draw.

I am mad they decided to jump so fast into OpenID though. Felt like say "Now you have foresight".

I am actually thinking is a good move to put up a fight against Google.

And if you are concerned about your email experience, just run your own email. I do. Its not difficult at all with Solaris. Plus you can get IMAP mail boxes instead of this webmail crap. And if you want the webmail crap, there are a ton of packages out there, There's even an OK Java based one that's free which I use when I'm "on the road".

Well, for some people Hotmail its getting better, if you have a good internet connection, its just fine... Yahoo its just the same as MSN and other services from MS... the same thing just different name. I prefer the Hotmail like it is...we can edit in a thousand ways, but i actually use Gmail. :)

The gmail had the best Spam filters... but more famous it gets, more vulnerable it gets...thats how it goes... :) in the end its all the same... it sends mail, haves plenty of space, and thats what's mail for? right? :) So if u like yahoo just stay with it... probably wont change. They just bought the team to join to the MS dev. team, so that they can make more other software or internet applications... probably everything will stay the same... because it will be stilt the same team working on it.

And theres lots of ppl with some paranoia against MS...well, for me its just a company like all the others... if wouldnt be them, maybe we would be still in the old MAC crappie era,... thanks to them we have now good mail services and good concurrence.

And that google so jealous...even when she has 64% of the market of internet against the 16% of MS and Yahoo together... Google is such a bastard!... trying to make everything so that MS and Yahoo wont come together...of course... Google wants to have easy life.. for what? to not do anything then still win millions?... google is disappointing me... first its them trying to buy all the companies from internet after everything they already have!64%!... monopoly! bah, lame...

I love Yahoo and I think it's the best out there. But today being the best is not enough and earning good money is never enough for investors. I wouldn't like Yahoo to become part of MS and Google - 2 companies that I hate, 2 monsters. Gmail sucks, it's been years they are on beta version, they copy all email ideas from Yahoo, so does Hotmail. I am very sad about Yahoo. If it becomes part of Yahoo i will use my own email on my own server.

Why Sun Microsystems doesn't buy Yahoo or merge? It could be better. Sun said they are the network they have now all the tools but I think they are missing to have something as Yahoo and it could be great that and not M$.
