OWB 11gR2 – The Right Time with GoldenGate
By David Allan-Oracle on Jul 12, 2010
The right time data warehousing presentation and demonstration using Oracle GoldenGate and OWB 11gR2 data warehouse operators at the recent ODTUG Kaleidoscope conference in Washington DC can be found below. It combines GoldenGate for replicating from a source to a stage system with OWB to process the changes using the dimension operator. I thought it was an awesome conference, useful from an educational and networking perspective I'd recommend others to attend who are looking to roll their sleeves up, learn and have fun.
The OWB 11gR2 right time demo with Oracle GoldenGate is here.
The demo walks through the setup of the extract and replicat processes (see Mark's post here for details on where to download GoldenGate etc thanks Mark), then the design of the mapping which processes customer changes and applies the inserts, updates and deletes using dimensional operators - it also incorporates the orphan management capabilities.
For you to use this you would need;
- the ODI 10g JKM for GoldenGate which is patch number 9449058, and
- the OWB 11gR2 patch 9785600, needed for the GoldenGate JKM to work, fixes a few little bugs.
You can get these from Metalink or eDelivery.
So, this is kind of what you'd expect anyway right with the code template based approach? So how about pushing the envelope, getting under the covers? High performance rich transformations are OWB's bread and butter, mix this with Oracle GoldenGate for replicating and capturing change with a little CDC infrastructure support and do all the stars align? Food for thought.
