The most famous one should be QEMU, and I download its Mac binary for a try. So bad experience, I just cannot finish the Windows XP installation last night and have to leave it there and take a look this morning. It finally starts up but the speed is very slow, and it brings the whole system to a snail.
The next one I'm trying is VirtualBox. This time it's so fast. I start playing with it after 8am, and now (9:04am) everything is OK. Installation finished, network connected, and I'm doing Windows Update and activating it (which normally means I want to use it for a long time). The only problem I've met is that the fans make loud noises during file copying at installation. Other than this, it's completely silent.
Of course I still cannot make sure I can fully utilize this guest system for online banks. Most of them will work, and even the basic version of the China Merchant Bank (cmbchina) works. I still don't know if their pro version works. The damned software detects if you are running under a virtualized environment and shuts itself down if it believes it's true. I know it does not work in VMWare.
Update: Oh, I hate it! CMB pro version still fails.
Update: Removing spaces between Virtual and Box.
