Creating multiple domains with NetBeans
By vbkraemer on May 10, 2005
Users who install the Sun Java System Application Server 8.1 PE from Solaris packages or RPMs can run into situations where the user may not be able to start the domains that are created as the server is installed. This causes problems for folks that want to take advantage of the J2EE development features.
We added the ability to detect these situations as the user registers the domain and allow the user to create a domain in thier user directory. The code checks to see if the user directory has an application server domain directory and then lets the user create one if it is not found.
If a user decides to create the domain in a "non-standard" location (anywhere outside their user directory) the search for a domain will fail. By leveraging this fact the user can use NetBeans to create multiple PE domains.
The user just needs to change the value of the domain folder field to create the new instance outside their user directory. Once the user accepts the default location, the spell is broken and the IDE looses the ability to create PE domains.
