UEK Release 4 Update 5 - Kernel for Open Cloud Infrastructure

Honglin Su
Sr. Director of Product Management

We just announced the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 4 Update 5 (4.1.12-103.3.8). The kernel is available on Oracle Linux 7 and 6 via Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN) or Oracle Linux yum server.

The newly released kernel provides enhancements for Btrfs, the recommended file system for Docker storage setup. Oracle Linux 7 with UEK Release 4 is the ideal platform for container deployment - in the cloud or on premises.

The same UEK Release 4 is used by Oracle VM Server 3.4. This update includes several patches for Xen Hypervisor that are backported from changes in the Linux 4.9 and 4.10 kernel releases. Many of these patches improve performance, error handling and provide general bug fixes.

Oracle Linux with UEK Release 4 has the KVM feature built-in. Customers can take advantage of the popular virtualization solution offered by Oracle Linux with UEK Release 4, and use your choice of management tools such as Oracle OpenStack, virt-manager, etc.
