What's New in Oracle Secure Global Desktop 5.1 webcast

We have a really exciting webcast coming up for you this week that will tell you all about what's new in Oracle Secure Global Desktop 5.1. Hosted by Andy Hall, you will learn all the exciting features in this brand new release!

What's New in Oracle Secure Global Desktop
Thursday, November 7, 9AM Pacific Time
Register now.

If you'd like a sneak peek, hop on over to the Fat Bloke Sings, where Fat Bloke goes into detail on some of the new features. My favorite is accessing your applications (or even full desktops) from SGD using just the Chrome web browser. In this graphic, Fat Bloke is running Oracle Linux via SGD and accessing with Chrome on the Mac. This required no installation on the client, no dependencies on any other software, nothing -- just open up Chrome, login, and all of your stuff is there. Very cool.

We hope to see you on Thursday!

Oracle Virtualization Friday Spotlight - October 18, 2013

Opening The Oracle VM Templates Blackbox

Oracle VM Templates give you the efficiency of speed and the assurance of no guess work. For those in the know, Oracle VM Guest Additions is a great way to empower you to do more interesting things with the Templates. Today’s blog article is to share the secrets with those who are not content with just treating Oracle VM Templates as a black box.

Oracle VM Guest Additions is a set of packages that can be installed on the guest operating system of a virtual machine running in the Oracle VM environment. These packages provide the tools to allow bi-directional communication directly between the Oracle VM Manager and the operating system running within the virtual machine. OK here’s where the ‘power-user’ part comes in…. This gives your fine-grained control over the configuration and behavior of components running within the virtual machine directly from Oracle VM Manager. You now have the ability to see and direct what goes on inside your VM from Oracle VM Manager.

  • Get a reporting on IP addressing
  • Use the template configuration facility to automatically configure virtual machines as they are first started
  • Send messages directly to a virtual machine to trigger programmed events
  • Query a virtual machine to obtain information pertaining to previous messages

Enough of the theory!

To get hands-on how-to’s and talk directly with the product expert on Oracle VM Guest Additions, Robbie de Meyer, or Oracle VM Templates for Oracle Database and RAC Template expert Saar Maoz, join us for the Oct 24th live webcast. You can also read more about the Oracle VM Guest Additions in the whitepaper.

Oracle VM networking under the hood and 3 new templates

We have a few cool things to tell you about:

First up: have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in the network when you Live Migrate your Oracle VM server workload? Or how Oracle VM implements the network infrastructure you configure through your point & click action in the GUI? Really….how do they do this? For an in-depth view of the Oracle VM for x86 Networking model, Look ‘Under the Hood’ at Networking in Oracle VM Server for x86 with our best practices engineer in a blog post on OTN Garage.

Next, making things simple in Oracle VM is what we strive every day to deliver to our user community. With that, we are pleased to bring you updates on three new Oracle Application templates:

E-Business Suite 12.1.3 for Oracle Exalogic
Oracle VM templates for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 (x86 64-bit for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud) contain all the required elements to create an Oracle E-Business Suite R12 demonstration system on an Exalogic server. You can use these templates to quickly build an EBS 12.1.3 demonstration environment, bypassing the operating system and the software install (via the EBS Rapid Install). For further details, please review the announcement.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.1 and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 9.1.2.1 for x86 servers and Oracle Exalogic
The Oracle VM Templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne provide a method to rapidly install JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.1  and Tools 9.1.2.1. The complete stack includes Oracle Database 11g R2 and Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.5 running on Oracle Linux 5. The templates can be installed to Oracle VM Server for x86 release 3.x and to the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.

PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.5.2.10 for Oracle Exalogic
This virtual deployment package delivers a "quick start" of PeopleSoft Middle-tier template on Oracle Linux for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.

And last, are you wondering why we talk about “fast”, “rapid” when we refer to using Oracle VM templates to virtualize Oracle applications? Read the Evaluator Group Lab Validation report quantifying speeds of deployment up to 10x faster than with VMware vSphere. Or you can also check out our on demand webcast Quantifying the Value of Application-Driven Virtualization.

Live Webcast: Simplified, Anywhere, Applications Access with Oracle Secure Global Desktop

If you are involved with end user applications in your organization, you've probably come across the following hurdles:

  • People want to work from home, and they might even be against installing VPN software.
  • People want work on various machines, not just their work issued laptop or desktop.
  • Users want to work on non-Windows devices like Apple's popular Macbook Pro, or Linux PCs.
  • Applications aren't always on Windows--some legacy applications are perfectly usable, but still run on AS/400 or mainframes.

One of the simplest ways to provide access to all of your applications (from Oracle or other vendors) is to use Oracle Secure Global Desktop. It allows you to host the client side of the applications on dedicated Application Servers in the data center, which are tightly controlled and managed by IT. And it provides a simple, web-browser based way for users to access those applications remotely from Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and Solaris. The users don't have to be concerned about installing any client bits or complicated VPN software, or even what platform the application is designed for. And if you're providing access to Oracle Applications, you'll be happy to know that all browser-based Oracle Applications are certified for use with Oracle Secure Global Desktop.

If you'd like to learn more, don't miss our live webcast on Thursday of this week. You'll also have an opportunity to get your questions answered by our Oracle Secure Global Desktop experts.
