Friday Spotlight: Secrets of Storage Repositories with Oracle VM

Here is some insider information for those using Oracle VM.

You use repositories in Oracle VM to store virtual resources such as ISO files, virtual disks and assemblies. Indeed you must have at least one repository to store the configuration files of your virtual machines.

Creating and populating your Oracle VM repositories is straightforward. Relocating repositories is a bit more involved.

You might want to answer the following questions:

  • Can you move an existing repository between server pools in your Oracle VM environment?
  • What happens to your repositories if you reinstall the Oracle VM Manager software?
  • Did your Oracle VM environment retain the UUID of the Oracle VM Manager from your previous environment
  • When building your recovery site as part of disaster-recovery operations do you have a plan to reclaim any repositories that were active in the failed environment
  • Could you get comprehensive answers to all these questions in 30 minutes

To answer these questions, you can view this series of 6 demos. You will learn the steps to reclaim your repositories. The first 4 demos introduce concepts that are important when relocating repositories. Demos 5 and 6 present practice scenarios where reclaiming repositories is a critical step for recovering virtual resources.

If the information in these demos is of use to you, you could consider taking the following courses:

You can take these courses by traveling to an education center as an in-class offering or from your own desk as a live-virtual offering.
