Airbus Selects Oracle Secure Global Desktop to Increase Efficiency and Accelerate Time to Market

In case you didn't see it this morning, I wanted to point you to our news release on Airbus selecting Oracle Secure Global Desktop to get real-time, secure access to their test flight performance data from remote sites. This is really an amazing use care for secure application access and allows them to position teams all around the EU (or the world, if they need to!) to monitor test flights, and to get information back from those engineers immediately.

If you're going to Oracle OpenWorld, you're in for a treat because you can hear all about this story directly from Laurent Peltiers of Airbus in the session Implementing Secure Access to Oracle Applications and Critical Data [CON9547], on Tuesday, September 24 at 3:45PM in the Westin - Concordia. Laurent will be joined by Iain Robertson from NHS Lothian who will discuss how his organization uses Oracle Secure Global Desktop, too. It will be a great session and we hope to see you there!

Oracle Virtualization at Oracle OpenWorld 2013, Part 2

If you're attending Oracle OpenWorld 2013 (and we hope you are!), the Schedule Builder tool is now available for you. Schedule Builder lets you register for the sessions you want to attend during the show. If you're interested in Oracle Virtualization, there are a number of sessions, hands on labs, and product demos that will be interesting to you. I covered several of the sessions in part 1 of this series, and in this one I'm going to cover a few more sessions. In the 3rd part of this series, I'll cover the Hands On Labs and demo stations that you can visit.

What's New with Oracle VM Server for x86 and SPARC: A Technical Deep Dive (CON9544)
Oracle VM Server virtualization solutions provide users the best combination of price, performance, certification, and advanced features tailored for ease of deployment and management. Spanning both x86 and SPARC architectures, it's designed to support a diverse set of OS workloads such as Linux, Solaris, and Windows to meet the wide ranging demands of modern IT environments. Join us to get the latest technology updates on Oracle VM Server.

High Availability and Infrastructure Best Practices with Oracle VM (CON11258)
This session will provide practical details and best practices on building and scaling an Oracle VM environment for High Availability for Database and infrastructure best practices. From information gathering and planning to analyzing needs of your environment, you will learn to plan for growth in infrastructure components to accommodate failover, DR, HA and migration. This session will also cover the methods to reduce downtime during events like system upgrades and migration and troubleshooting during system outages.

And in the Develop track:

What's New in Oracle VM VirtualBox (CON9550)
Oracle VM VirtualBox is the world's most popular cross-platform virtualization software, with nearly 100 million downloads. Optimized to run on desktop systems, Oracle VM VirtualBox is an ideal choice for development and testing, and can help ease cross-platform headaches by allowing you to run multiple platforms on your laptop or PC. In this session Oracle experts will cover the latest advancements in Oracle VM VirtualBox, including information on features such as VM Groups, guest automation, resource controls, and more.

One of my favorite features for attendees of Oracle OpenWorld is the "Focus On" documents that group together similar content as kind of a quick reference guide. This year, Focus On documents are done with a cool dynamic web page, so any changes that happen in the next few weeks (for example, when the Hands On Labs signups open up in the next week or so, or if a session gets oversubscribed and is moved to a bigger room), the Focus On page will automatically update. So, please go here to have a look at the most up to date Focus on Virtualization, and then bookmark it for future reference:

Focus on Virtualization

This year's show is shaping up to be a big one! Most of the folks that post on this blog will be there along with a large number of folks from the Oracle virtualization team, and we're very excited to meet you in person!

Oracle Virtualization at Oracle OpenWorld 2013, Part 1

It's that time of year again when you have a unique opportunity to meet and talk with Oracle's virtualization experts at Oracle OpenWorld. This is the first of a series of blogs where we'll discuss virtualization related activities happening at this year's show.

The theme of this year's show is "The Future Begins at Oracle OpenWorld", and the content we've put together for you is reflective of that. We have sessions, demos, hands on labs, and many opportunities for you to meet with our executives, developers, technical staff, and more, and learn everything you need to know about Oracle virtualization.

In this first blog of the series, I'd like to highlight some of the virtualization sessions in the main OpenWorld virtualization track:

General Session: Oracle Virtualization Strategy and Roadmap (GEN9535)
In this can't miss session, you will get details of the latest product updates and strategy, product roadmaps, integration with enterprise applications, and real-world examples of how Oracle server, desktop, storage, and network virtualization are benefiting customers.

Building a World-Class Public and Private Cloud with Oracle VM and Oracle Enterprise Manager (CON3449)
In this session, you will learn about Oracle VM application-driven virtualization with Oracle VM Templates and integrated total cloud control management with Oracle Enterprise Manager. You’ll hear from Korea Telecom about how it is experiencing the ease and speed of delivering cloud infrastructure and application services in its enterprise.

Best Practices for Deploying Highly Scalable Virtualized Oracle Applications (CON11257)
This session introduces a systematic methodology for migrating existing Oracle E-Business Suite applications and Oracle’s JD Edward EnterpriseOne applications from a physical server environment to a virtual environment. Hear experts from Dell and Oracle about how to plan, size, and identify the best techniques for using Oracle VM Templates to simplify your application migration or consolidation.

Best Practices for Virtualizing Oracle Database with Oracle VM Templates (CON9555)
With Oracle VM Templates—preconfigured, pretested, and certified for Oracle Database and Oracle applications—you can virtualize your database and applications with ease and peace of mind. In this session, learn about Oracle VM Templates from experts from Overstock.com and Oracle.

The Real Benefits of Private Clouds with Oracle VM (CON9545)
In this session, you will gain practical insight into quantifiable savings delivered by application-driven virtualization, which enables simplified management and application deployment that is 7x to 10x as fast. You will also hear how Time Warner Cable achieves real savings deploying private clouds with Oracle VM.

Implementing Secure Access to Oracle Applications and Critical Data  (CON9547)
Oracle Secure Global Desktop is an ideal tool for providing secure remote access to nearly any application, including Oracle Applications and even custom, in-house software. Attend this session to hear experts from Airbus and NHS Lothian discuss how they use Oracle Secure Global Desktop to provide secure access to their critical applications and data.

This is just a sampling of the many sessions you have to choose from. We'll talk more about other sessions you can attend, the hands on labs, and demos in future entries. Until then, feel free to have a look through the Content Catalog (search on "virtualization" or other related terms to see what piques your interest!).
