It’s been an exciting week here with the release of Oracle VM VirtualBox 5.0! I’ve used it daily for years and it’s indispensable. Here are the some of things I use it for:
- Running different operating systems: my most common configuration is running Oracle Linux in a VM on a Mac.
- Testing out multi-tier architectures on a single machine: I do this sometimes with Oracle Secure Global Desktop, using a combination of Linux, Solaris, and Windows Server guests.
- And I think my favorite is having my work environment (again, an Oracle Linux VM) encapsulated so whenever I change machines, I only have to install VirtualBox and am back up and running immediately.
It’s just a great tool.
