Pella Standardizes on Oracle VM and Oracle Linux

Here's another Oracle VM (and Oracle Linux) success story! Pella needed a solution to virtualize its key business applications.

Upon a competitive review of server virtualization solutions, including Red Hat and VMware, Pella chose to implement Oracle VM which aligned with its strategic vision of greater efficiency and performance at lower cost along with enterprise class support that Pella needed for its critical business systems.

To improve IT performance and efficiency, and lower operational costs, Pella Corporation, a leader in designing, testing, manufacturing and installing quality windows and doors, has standardized on Oracle VM, server virtualization software and Oracle Linux.

Among many other benefits, Oracle VM has significantly increased the processing capacity available to Pella by reducing its average CPU utilization from 30-40 percent down to eight-nine percent, even at peak utilization.

Hot Off the Press: Oracle Virtualization Whitepaper

The latest white paper on Oracle's Virtualization Strategy discusses the new trend that data centers are now becoming service centers, and Virtualization technologies need to evolve to keep pace with changing IT demands. Just a hypervisor is not good enough.

Here is an excerpt:

As IT organizations look to deliver on-demand services, virtualization requirements continue to advance -- and companies are realizing that server virtualization is only a partial solution. Without the ability to package complete application environments that can be deployed on demand, IT staff must manually customize solutions in order to deliver services. Today's virtualization solutions need to:

• Evolve beyond simple consolidation
• Support comprehensive application environments that meet stringent high availability and scalability requirements
• Integrate with the applications running in the virtual environment
• Make the entire application stack easier to provision, deploy, manage, and support
• Result in greater IT efficiency, agility, and flexibility

Read this whitepaper to find out how Virtualization is evolving and how Oracle Virtualization can help you realize true benefits beyond simple consolidation.

The Virtual Enterprise

The cover story in Oracle Magazine's July/Aug. issue, "The Virtual Enterprise", is of course focused on Virtualization! It gives a comprehensive overview of Oracle's "desktop to data-center" portfolio of virtualization products. But even better, it highlights some significant users like JP Morgan Chase, Parks Victoria and Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Labs, that are benefitting from the various aspects of virtualization - from consolidation, to energy savings and green IT to using virtualization for enabling a more flexible and efficient way to deploy software.

It is clear that using virtualization to consolidate resources is only the first step to benefit from it...the real value lies in using virtualization for deploying and managing applications, leading to significantly higher cost savings and efficiency.

I hope you'll find "The Virtual Enterprise" as interesting a read as I did.
